re brands - is there any upscale brand that is totally uniform?
management/staff and developer/owner also vary dramatically
problems can happen everywhere, and recovery not always 'easy'
bhrubin mentioned Luxury Collection - some well regarded ones are franchises
bvlgari london, RC chicago, RC montreal are also franchises (only ones for RC/bvlgari)
(ex-FS) RC chicago is now being managed by same company as ex-FS philadelphia

If & when my visit is " long " , I have stayed at more than one hotel .
Say , in Phuket : start at Marriott by the beach if kids in party & reward ourselves with Puri & Trisara after .
NYC : MONY , The Mark as we did last month & ??
Same applies to CA e.g.
LA : FS , BHW & ..
SF : used to be MOSF , PH & .. between staying with relations including other PH ( Pacific Heights )
London : Halkin & various in between relatives / friends
