Looking at my folio from our trip a few weeks ago to Amanoi/Amantaka. The latter charged me $9 ($3 each) to mail postcards to the U.S.

I can't remember the last time a luxury hotel has charged me for postcards, let alone $3 USD. Have I just gotten lucky? Leaves a bad taste in my mouth for whatever reason, especially considering the postcards came from Amantaka and were located in the room when we checked in.

This is extremely unusual for an Aman, we even sent a small package from another Aman and were not charged. Very odd.

That's pretty poor from Aman.

Maybe it goes back to a comment on here about how they won't be able to spend freely anymore (for things like custom bedding that a client likes) as each expenditure is heavily scrutinised?

Bizarre in any case.

To be fair especially at city-hotels I pay quite often for postcards. I would say 70% charge and 30% dont. So may be unusual for an Aman but usual for Luxury Hotels.

long time aman GMs (including taka - still livio?) might remove these kinds of charges

re cost of $3 each, seems postage would've been at least $1.50 each (as of a year ago)

Can you share more information on this? I was not able to find anything online. This is very exciting indeed!

yes, but did not check all outside asia, after it became clear that it was asia (like prior free night offers)

i am always happy to take 'requests' from people here (via post or PM) and post/PM data from reservations/etc

Undiscovered Indonesia (became 2 night minimum) and Bali Break (3 night) and other indonesia Exclusives
Undiscovered Aman (no minimum)
Undiscovered Hangzhou (no minimum)

they are all in aman online reservations system on aman website
indonesia Exclusives (usual and Undiscovered) were listed under Exclusives

if it was not on the website i would have said so and posted details

Generic Service Fees, Resort Fee and Facility Fees go straight to the organization. Having worked at a few large resort type facilities the money goes to the bottom line. It does not trickle down unless it is specific to a service Room Service or other food service. Even then, the company may take a "vig."

So that said, I also believe in tipping housekeeping.
