Vladimir Doronin suffers setback in luxe hotel battle

Russian oligarch Vladimir Doronin, billionaire ex of Naomi Campbell, suffered a blow in his legal battle over luxury hotel chain Amanresorts after a London judge threatened to have him jailed or fined, or have his assets seized, if he disobeys a new order.

Doronin, who claims he’s the owner of the ultraluxe Aman hotel business, which includes the Amanyara in Turks and Caicos and Thailand’s Amanpuri Resort, has been in a court struggle with his former business partner, New York-based Omar Amanat.
...

<snip>

A rep for Doronin said, “We are aware of the court’s judgment [only] on the specific issue of there being no proactive comments on the ownership of Aman and we await the final hearing later on this year. Mr. Doronin looks forward to when this matter is finally resolved in his favor.”

Well , pray all will be resolved soon & that Aman ethos will hold stead , along with long held values .

Reading that first post on Amanpuri beach is quite something , with Harish here & some pioneer team holding fort , things should get even better .
If this good wind prevails , like the gentle breeze blowing now & calm seas for this season , can hope to return more often to this Aman flagship home .

Some of Indonesian Amans have always included the first four hours of baby sitting complimentary but don't think that they've advertised it. I just went back over our activities sheets from Kila, Dari, and Jiwo and noticed that listed. Not sure about Nusa or Wana...

This should be same for all AmanIndo ( as Mark S covers all ) ; only activities vary for obvious reasons or stated property ' special '
We had the same sitter at Kila while in Amankila suite , can ' t recall for Nusa

Bagh rate is now inclusive too , full board , etcetera

What is not if they ( the new corporate ) don ' t allowed for individual property identity . As some have noted , e.g. Jiwo , Wana , Sara , ASP , Ruya , etcetera have own stylish & stylized fonts for names ..

Pity if this changes to become the boring & sterile " corporate identity "

As a management consultant , one wonders why others tend to mess up an already excellent one

The fours complimentary babysitting applies to Nusa as well - we took advantage of this on our visit in July to Nusa and Kila. The Nusa babysitters are outsourced to a private company but our Kila babysitter is an employee of the resort (with limited English). They don't always send the same babysitter which is a shame although we didn't specify we wanted consistency (which may be our fault). A lot of the children's activities are complimentary and we felt that some staff do go out of their way to entertain the children, particularly at Nusa.

(giri changed from low season Exclusive to part of rate when it added high season)
(ruya went from low season Exclusive to part of rate and now back to Exclusive)

Kage , according to Harish N , Bagh wasn't all inclusive previously like Wana where one has to top up for board . And that it is now even better at a lower all inclusive rate , as a norm
We shall see .
With rates going up annually , this is very welcome .
You can do your usual research & tabulation

i have posted rates for 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016
doronin/etc did a lot of rate drops in 2014, 2015, 2016
2015 4th nt free offer, 2014 offers through XEXEC/etc
(and more seasons, and room category changes)

but as i noted in my last post, also typical rate increases
IIRC they brought some rate drops / seasons forward
lots of drops in 2015, so only 4 drops from 2015 to 2016
= noi (added new base category) and taka/ikhas/sara
(kora tried new low season in 2015, dont know re 2016)

many aman do / have done full board as "Exclusive"
many did full board Exclusive in low season, including >
- giri changed from that to full board rate & added high season premium
- ruya changed from that to full board rate then changed back to Exclusive)
- bagh changed from that to full board rate (via FlyerEC via Harish N)
- puri tried doing low season full board rate instead of low season discount
(these changes were discussed here when they happened)

as i expected, the bagh reservation system / site has no hint of change
ive noticed a bunch of minor issues, and took giri long time to load details
without rate page, there is not place for everything, and hard to update
but with rate page, they put everything there, and update as necessary
presumably / hopefully the rate card PDFs/etc are being kept up to date

And Another Amanera Video

Will it be ready in two months? Sorry I guess they did not want us to see this as it was taken down on 9/22/15. I guess the best way to share this is with private messages if we don't want them to go away.

If this video reflects the current state of the resort, then I would say no. And looking at the video: wow, some of those villas are really close to each other.

Some, yes. Good for families who need connecting rooms, not so good for the rest. From a PR/marketing perspective I find those videos problematic, as it takes away from the great promo material so far. The gardens and landscaping of the resort will need some time to grow in. I can't wait to hear about the service there and read the first reviews. Other 'Dolphin Amans' have stellar service (Zoe), but this location will be a challenge. If I were to go, I'd give it another year.

I'm actually very excited about this location. Granted, I'm in Florida...so it's one of those 'leave after breakfast, arrive by lunch' destinations. That said, it looks SO green and so lush that I can't help but to be thrilled.

The only problematic issue with the video? It takes away some of the 'wow factor' when the resort is ready to open (and, presumably, the plants are grown in).

It's worth noting that Mukul opened in a similar situation...lots of plans are JUST now growing in, 2+ years later!
