I recommend for those who like private & quiet places that feel like enclaves.

I recommend for those who like to vegetate.

And lastly, those who are OK with a slower way of life.
Thanks! How well did the air con work in the bohios/villas? I'm especially sensitive to being in heat and humidity, while I love going to luxury properties in remote places that aren't yet terribly developed. I prefer to be able to cool the bedroom/room to around 68 F or so during the day, 67 F or so at night to sleep (I'm quite the air con diva you can say.)

A/C worked VERY well.

I like to sleep in sub zero temps - - and I like the mid-day temp to be around 68 as well.

Very nice, thanks!

We've been waiting until things settle down for Mukul, as all properties have issues in the first year or two, depending on location. Nicaragua isn't the luxury destination, so Mukul has some service ground to break with its staff, most likely--not a particularly surprising thing in a country like this. It seems like 2016 might be when we pull the trigger and go. :-)

Any word on when the closer airport is due to open?

Is the weather this time of year bearable?

seems owner wants to build airport near tola, but would be targeting nonstop private charters (and local flights?) because mukul is only a 2 hour drive from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augusto...tional_Airport

http://en.centralamericadata.com/en/...irport_in_Tola
"The Project for the Costa Smeralda Private Airport includes a runway with an area 1525 meters long by 30 wide, and a terminal where ATR- 42 aircraft can land carrying 40 or 50 passenger and also jet aircraft with up to 14 passengers".
http://en.centralamericadata.com/en/...osta_Esmeralda

http://www.property-nicaragua-reales...ontinues-grow/
estimated that in the next 15 years the airport will increase tourist traffic by 300,000 passengers annually, countrywide.

Airport should be open by November. Runway is already ready and paved. Think they're just working on finalizing the thing...
ps, think the airport is in Gigante, which is less than 20 minutes from the hotel.

In other Mukul news, reports are back that they've hired a new chef and the food is inching towards that "world class" goal they set earlier this year. Slow and steady.

The new runway is supposed to vastly open up options - not just for guests - but for incoming food types that couldn't previously be brought in by way of MGA and then 2 hours in a car. Runway is also supposed to attract some new blood from different parts of the world (new kitchen-types from other parts of the world that were turned off by the remoteness of Mukul who can now come in and oversee staff).

They're still keeping their commitment to only hiring staff from local towns/villages. Guests are loving this strong social statement.

We're booked for Jan 2016. Looks like the airport will be operational as of Nov. 1.

From a Mukul guest experience coordinator:

Our new airport will start operating private flights on November 1st. and commercial flight starting on November 14th. Regarding flights to ECI, due to regulations, flights will need to be booked directly with the airline company. This can be done online at https://lacostena.online.com.ni/ or through their reservations team at [email protected] or at +(505) 2298-5360.
I am excited and encouraged by the new chef addition and continued improvements.

commercial flights from both Managua’s Augusto C. Sandino International Airport and Costa Rica’s Liberia International Airport.
(that is the airport near FS costa rica)

https://lacostena.online.com.ni/schedule.aspx lists 2 round trips from managua (at 09:45 and 13:30)

will be interesting to see commercial expansion

Yes, but the website doesn't yet indicate on which days the flights will be offered. We'd love to fly back to MGA at the end of our stay so we can enjoy Mukul more (and we have a 5:30 pm departing flight on TA/AV), but we'll have to wait and see if those are daily or only offered on certain days.

Costa Esmeralda Airport
international Customs Department
Sansa Airlines from Liberia (Costa Rica)

14 scheduled commercial flights per week, with two daily flights from Liberia International Airport on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and two daily flights from Managua International Airport on Saturdays and Sundays
even departure from resort can depend on check-in time etc (hopefully works out)
if arrival customs there instead of MGA, may be a reason to do it for arrival

I'm annoyed that there are so many flights for ECI-LIR and not ECI-MGA. I understand there are many resorts surrounding LIR, which is the reason the Costa Rican airline serves that route more, but you'd think that the Nicaraguan airline would serve MGA-ECI more often than just Sat and Sun.

Mukul incredibly responsive

I must say that Mukul has been tremendously responsive to all of my queries and requests since booking last week. I've not waited more than a day for a response to any of my queries, and usually I receive the response in a few hours.

I've negotiated a discount on consumptions while on property, extras for our complimentary transfer, and arranged a number of other details for my birthday stay. Responses have been warm, efficient, and always striving to please IMO. Our neighbors, joining us at our suggestion, have received the same level of follow up.

This is a notable change from when I reached out to Mukul a year ago and had some issues with response time/lack of follow up.

I'm highly encouraged.

Good to hear. For what it's worth, I've heard nothing but good things coming out of Mukul lately. It had a rocky start but I think it's finely hit it's stride.
