In Zurich I can highly recommend the Bau au Lac, down near the lake on / near the exclusive part of Bahnhofstrasse. A very luxurious old money hotel in Zurich, no spa, but all other services of high quality. Certainly a hotel for people coming to do business with all the banks very close by, rather than a resort hotel. But a very nice although expensive experience.

Go to the end of this thread to read recent reports on the Park Hyatt:

I've stayed there several times, but it doesn't tug at my heart the same way as the Park Hyatt Paris or the Park Hyatt Milan. It is a beautiful business hotel with excellent service. It is a couple blocks up from the water. I stay because I have Hyatt status and points. If I were paying, I'd search out a property with a view and with public spaces that give a greater sense of relaxation.

I have a review in the Hyatt forum thread (post 194) although my stay was 2-3 years ago. I was not impressed with the service.
I did stay on a combination of a promotional night and award night, and acknowledge that my treatment may have been worse because of that (other FTers have also said they did not get certain amenities, etc. on award/promotional stays).

Just stayed this past weekend on a paid rate. Used a Diamond Suite Upgraded for a Park Suite. Overall, a good stay but nothing special. Was disappointed to see that the breakfast menu had nothing special considering it was a Park Hyatt.

But I hear you -- it is very bland and has absolutely no sense of place. If one is not married to Gold Passport or traveling for business only, I would switch to the Dolder. Zurich has also many nice and tiny little high end hotels these days!
