I understand there was a letter of intent signed about this- however has construction actually commenced? Building and restoring anything in Venezia takes a very long time for cultural, logistical, and bureaucratic reasons.

(venice discussion in 'new aman' thread)

http://www.time.com/time/business/ar...103987,00.html

My pet hate is hyperbole of any kind, or advertising. It is counterproductive. Anything could happen that might delay the opening of a resort, so we don't know really until only a few months before opening

Our gross operating profit -- revenue against direct expenses -- is significantly higher than those of any other hotel in the world
http://web.archive.org/web/201010300...ey/bhutan.html

Zecha says, "The first cigar of the day is the best one. It is my last vice left.

"We have more than 100,000 repeat customers," says Zecha. "Now, this is a company with less than 540 rooms—total. Many chains have more rooms in a single hotel. We call the repeat customers Amanjunkies." After a pause, he adds: "I should say that the customers call themselves this as well. It's an honorable word."

"To prepare for shortages of meat, which are still fairly common here, we will be making our own sausages and curing our own hams and bacons," says Reed. "Every once in a while, we will go down to the market and buy a yak and butcher it ourselves." He laughs. "This is something Amans have not typically done before."

Are you kidding?!! Nobody really understands who owns what. Each property is different. For instance, Amankila is something like 41% owned by others (Frankie whatshisname who owns Alila) and the rest by Aman.

"Of the three big-ticket non-core assets, we have already sold Mumbai land. We are in advance stage of discussion for sale of Amanresorts and wind energy business. But announcement is few weeks away. We expect closure of these two deals by March 2013," DLF Group CFO Ashok Tyagi told PTI.

He said the company is in talks with more than one company in both the transactions

Amanresorts Thread 2012 (Started by Amanjunkie)

Any news if proposed opening of Aman Vinh Hy in Q1/13 is still on track ? Looking for some special place for my honeymoon next July and weatherwise I cannot think of any better place (as I am still befuddled by Amanzoe's price hike, all other usual suspects - Seychelles, Maldives, Amanpulo - have bad weather in July).

Bora Bora could be a nice place for honeymoon, July is also a dry season.

Alas, it appears Aman in Bora Bora will not reopen by then - if ever.

I think the weather in the Seychelles in July is good. Obviously Bali too.

They say that Vinh Hy will take a while, so I don't expect it to open Q1/13. How about Amanruya, Bodrum? I loved it, and July is perfect. Equally, you would get a really good deal at Amanjena in July. I know everyone says Marrakech is an oven in July, but the last couple of years it has been really good - not too hot at all.

Then there's Sveti Stefan..... etc etc

seems they could have done a REAL interview, and chose not to. oh well.
at least there is zecha's choice of words in first 3 answers.
and "largest median age group is between 35 and 45" is interesting.

in an analyst call, DLF had said...“We hope we would be able to announce it in the current quarter itself,” said Ashok Tyagi, chief financial officer.

Rajeev Talwar, executive director of DLF Ltd, says...

These are complex financial transactions and they do take time because of the paper and legal work, but we are working very hard to close the deal. Valuations are a matter of international analysis and there is no point speculating over it. While we would certainly want to sell it at the highest price, the buyer would want it at the fairest valuation. It’s a two-way process, talks are ongoing and being held in India and overseas. We are extremely hopeful of completing the deal within this fiscal.

Aman is now closing or reaching its closure point over the next few weeks itself. We hope that we are able to announce the transaction in the current quarter. However, the financial closure and everything would happen probably in the month of January, but we hope that we are able close and announce it during the current quarter.

We are on target for the fiscal year 2013. [ending mar 31 2013]

what is the book value of like the assets at Aman Resorts ex your Lodi property?

As we begin closing the Aman transaction, reporting it in Q3 or Q4 hopefully you'll get an answer to that question. But currently we do not wish to honestly comment on that, because also we've got very close to closure...Aman and wind mills are both transactions, which are on the verge of closing. But clearly, whatever is the book value that we have, the profit and loss will be driven off that honestly and right now I'd like to leave it there.

monetization of the non‐core is now at the last stage of its culmination

Aman closures will add further strength

unofficial debt http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/8726891-post362.html
official debt? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/17423104-post607.html
$200mm debt clearly involves property ownership, via silverlink etc
seeing potentially even higher numbers in 2008 docs - did they finance the cash portion or record it that way?

officially selling may 2010 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/13977977-post81.html (unofficial earlier)
a year earlier than claimed here > http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/19140940-post167.html
ah, im remembering in some old fin docs something about looking for JV investors, like selling equity in aman
yeah thats how they word it in annual report from same time frame >
Company will, at an opportune time, explore the possibility of a strategic partnership for Aman Resorts in order to further strengthen the current business model.
so may 2010 technically they were not selling, they were selling equity, and that didnt work or it was just a cover
