I actually liked Fullerton Bay Hotel very much, some rooms have great view of skyline and casino from other corner of Marina Bay. I would not stay at Orchard Road, as Marina Bay is new centre of Singapore and much more beautiful.

Best Luxury Hotel in Singapore?

I recently had 4 days at the IC, got a nice upgrade and could not find fault with the room, product or services.

Thanks for all your feedback ^

It seems it will either be the Vally Wing or the a suite at RC. Right now it looks like we will be in Singapore for only three nights, so will not change hotels whilst there. If this changes I will give both the Vally Wing and the RC a try.

Which is the better location? The Marina Bay (and then the RC) or Orchard Road (and then the VW:-))?

Cheers ^

Not the only one. I had a fabulous three night stay in the Charlie Chaplin Suite, and the service and food were excellent. For me, lounging in the pool at night was one of the most luxurious experiences of my life.

Yes, it's old, but if you like historic architecture, that's not a demerit.

I'm here at FBH now. Other than major NOISY construction and multiple severe service lapses, it is fine. The note in my room says that construction will continue well into Q3'12. FBH largely sucks like all the other supposed 5* hotels in Singapore. I've yet to find a good hotel here. Of the four I have been to, St Regis sucks the least.

I was shocked at BK this morning, but that is another thread.

PS -- Still here. Now the air conditioning is down for the entire hotel. This is, ahhhh, an issue in Singapore ......

Ever been totally shocked by food (in a bad way) at a 5* hotel?

Post deleted. Should have been a new thread.

I am deciding between Naumi* or the Four Seasons for Friday night, after a couple of nights at my old fave the IC. I'm leaning towards Naumi due to location and what looks like an amazing infinity pool with view over the city skyline, plus I am not at all keen on the Four Season's Orchard Road scene.

Any thoughts?

* Apologies if Naumi is not considered a luxury hotel for the purposes of this forum - given the slim pickings in Singapore I am thinking about trying something a bit different!

Given the choice of location, I personally prefer the Ritz Carlton, but primarily for the view. Ask for high floor corner room ( premier which is like a jr suite) or a suite. Believe it or not i really like the corner harbor facing premier better than the full suite and I prfer the harbor facing on the downtown Singapore side as high up as possible. Definately go for club level as will be high up, and a nice lounge with good breakfast, champagne, and decent food. I also really like valley wing, but prefer the harbor view to the orchard road location, but it is a matter of preference. A lot if people want to be near orchard road for shopping, but I never went to Singapore for that reason. Also there is more and more activity now near the marina. Both have nice pools IMO. In either case you will enjoy!

I actually was very impressed with the Raffles. Yes, it is old, and even the rooms are starting to look a bit long in the tooth post 90's renovation, but the service was truly outstanding. And the atmosphere of the guest-only areas is really from another era in hospitality.

The Fullerton Bay I thought was quite good. Good location (walking distance from my office), the rooms were high quality, with cool views. Service was probably in line for what passes as 5* in Singapore, meaning nothing extraordinary. Really liked the rooftop bar restaurant pool areas, even if somewhat overloaded with non-hotel guests and some of the most shrill and unpleasant FOH staff, felt like I was at some hot hip NYC restaurant where the attitude is they're doing you a favor by allowing you into their premises.

Me too, but I haven't liked all of the changes, such as eliminating the Friday Manager's reception and no longer having 24/7 access to the pool.

Some of their rooms are small. I'm not sure it's worth the price. For that neighborhood, I'd pick Raffles for the fun of staying in an iconic historical property, but the tourists in the public areas are a nuisance.

I decided to go with the Four Seasons - or to be more accurate I forgot to cancel my booking and change to somewhere else before the 48hr Amex cancellation window, so here I am.

Checked in half an hour ago and I have to say this is an incredibly bland, dated and unimpressive property for a Four Seasons. If you got rid of the L'Occitane toiletries it could pass for a 90s era Sheraton in a heartbeat. The interior design is most unattractive and so far the service seems pretty average. Also the internet is painfully slow.

So far my Singapore luxury hotel ranking would go:
1. Ritz Carlton
2. Intercontinental (yes, seriously)
3. Fullerton
4. Mandarin Oriental
5. Four Seasons

The first two are the only ones I look forward to going back to. No doubt it's slim picking for good hotels in Singapore. Will hopefully try the Shangri-la, Naumi and Fullerton Bay over the next few months.

Within striking distance of the tired, dated, Four Seasons is the valley wing of the Shangri-La (it is operated as a separate hotel practically from the main part of the Shangri-La). The service is wonderful, the rooms are very large, the receptions at happy hour are legendary, the breakfast is great, and the internet is both Fast and completely Free for as many devices as you would like.

Once you go over there- you will wonder why you went anywhere else.

I ended up checking out and going to the RC, which is spectacular as always. Club lounge staff remembered my name and favourite drink (after one short stay a month ago). It would surely be impossible to beat this view...
