Hi all. Checking in after being away for a while. I hope everyone is well.

We had a wonderful trip to South Africa over Christmas. Tanda Tula, Londolozi and Cape Grace (for NYE). We were very lucky on our animal sightings...even the spotter and ranger were in awe some of the lion battles that we saw. EK F on the return journey was also a treat.

Back to the monotony of random business trips now.

I wish everyone a wonderful New Year.

some raffles and montage hotels have flexible check-in/out ?
seems montage was doing it after they hired Pen LA GM
(all peninsula via PenClub, unclear re all capella)

http://www.cntraveler.com/stories/20...ng-of-the-past

"We take it on a case-by-case basis. We always have a backup plan," says [capella DC GM] Bustamante. As for cleaning staff, "We do staff a little earlier and later than most hotels and assign fewer rooms [per person] so that we can focus on attention to detail." It helps that Capella's hotels are small and intimate (the D.C. property has 49 rooms), so the reception team doesn't have to keep track of a huge number of guests. And if there was a situation where every single departing guest wanted late check-out and every single arriving guest wanted early check-in, staff will talk to guests and try to negotiate in order to prevent chaos. So far though, Bustamante says, the system is working out pretty well.

Very interesting. It's such a beautiful part of the world. We will have to be patient. It is forecast to open in 2019.

Kempinski Hotels appoints new CEO

Kempinski Hotels’ supervisory board and the board of directors of Kempinski Hotels SA have unanimously agreed to appoint Markus Semer as chairman of the management board and chief executive officer.

The move comes following the stepping down of the group’s previous CEO Alejandro Bernabe.

Very sad that Didier Le Calvez, CEO, President and GM of Le Bristol Paris has been replaced by Philippe Perd, lately of Oetker's Eden-Roc Antibes.

I thought the same, heard the news from Leah M. Speechless. I just hope Monsieur Perd doesn't bring much of the attitudes of Eden-Roc with him, as I find this grande dame very pretentious.

I do wish hotel companies would try to eschew politics and concentrate on what they do best - hospitality. Poor Leah is bereft. I suspect the rest of the staff feels the same, as Perd is not, allegedly, respected. I loathed Eden-Roc - arrogant service and inedible food. Let's hope he does not destroy what Eric Frechon has done at le Bristol.
