The Ananti is located in the Mount Kumgang Tourist District and is situated at the foot of Kumgang Mountain in North Korea.
A four hour drive from Seoul, about 20 mins into North Korea.
The Ananti is a luxury hotel resort (5 star plus) with 106 rooms, of which 5 are two-bedroom suites. The Hotel features an 18-hole international championship golf course with stunning panoramic views of the mountain and sea.
I have my doubts that the best (Geumgang-san) of the current eight hotels in the North Korean tourist zone will qualify as a "luxury hotel" as defined by this forum. But it does not look too bad - for an educational trip - on http://www.flickr.com/photos/prithew...th/2659325638/
Here's the gossip. Ananti actually opened in 2008. However, there was, allegedly, a rather serious border incident that managed to close the hotel. A South Korean woman, on her way to North Korean Ananti, was stopped at the border and, after a slight disagreement, was shot and killed by border guards. Welcome to North Korea! Hence the re-opening. Have we forgotten? No, I don't think so.....

The "woman" was actually shot by North Korean border guards at 4h30 in the morning walking over the border of the Tourist Zone, and running away when addressed.
Sounds somewhat similar to the two "journalists" caught at the Northern border and flown home by Bill Clinton on Steve Bing's private jet. Or the "crazy guy" swimming 2km across a lake to Aung Sun Suu Kyi in Burma. Or the three "hikers" who meandered from Iraqi Kurdistan into Iran. (Not sure if a would fit here...)
