I get the feeling that entry prices are dropping at most Aman properties (even more so on a € basis). Is that correct?

Although I personally appreciate that development, I wonder if the lower prices are not negatively affecting the brand image.
Not sure about lower price. The $600 is (according to the hotel) an opening special for the first two month. After this the price will go up to $800 for the cheapest suite. Then there basically is 21% tax on top of this so you are looking at $1000 per night.

Great trip report, zigzag! We are looking forward to our stay in December. We love this area of the US. But we wonder where we will place the cot for MicroDUF when we get there. There is no separate living and bed room, correct?

There is no division between the living area and the sleeping area. The couch is built into the foot of the bed. Depends how small you child is they could make up the couch for them. If a cot is being wheeled into the room I guess you could move the coffee table and place the cot there in the evening. I think they would take the cot away during the day so you all could get around the room with out bumping into the cot.

Hello zigzag,

Did you get to see Terrace Suite too?
Does it have better view than the Mesa Suite?

Thanks!

The pool suite was a terrace pool suite which means the outdoor dessert lounge has two chaise's, two resting mattresses as well as the central gas fire place. It is much deeper then the mesa or dessert view suites and liked this terrace better then the one in the front of the suite with the pool and day bed. If the view from the suite was of the dessert or the mesa I don't think it would make a much difference. If you want to be near the spa then you want a mesa view suite.

I've been wanting to stay here since they announced the property a few years ago.

Is the hotel in really remote area almost exclusively by itself, or are they houses and other developments nearby? My sincere hope is the former.

Thanks for the report, zigzag. I've been eyeing this resort's opening since reading about it on the website. I look forward to going soon!

Check out my latest blog posting for another view of Amangiri. I'm scheduled to head back into one of their pool villas in just a few weeks and will post a detailed trip report about that stay as well....

http://www.15MinutesMore.com (scroll down a bit for the Aman bit)

Overall, it's a great resort: True Aman quality. I had the chance to meet with Adrian Zecha while I was there... Good guy and incredibly open about his involvement on and off with the Aman brand.

Thanks for the review with pics, BN! May I ask what your mode of travel was to get there? We are considering flying to Las Vegas or Phoenix and then driving, based on the shortest drive. It just seems like too much trouble to fly from VA to Page with multiple connections, and we'd like to have a car to explore the area.

Thanks!

I flew into Page (which wasn't nearly as bad as I had thought it would be), where Aman does pickups with BMW X5's. The ride is only about 20 mins from the little FBO, but they also mentioned that they also will do transfers from LAS as well.

I'd recommend flying into Page. Frankly, this is the kind of resort that embodies tuning out and turning off, so trucking it into town everyday wasn't something that appealed to me. If you want to go into town, I'm sure Aman would accommodate, but there also seems to be more than enough offered at Amangiri to keep you from boredom.

Based on the lack of any signage into the property, it might make it tough (especially at night) finding the place. I'm sure if you had GPS it wouldn't be an issue. I'm just a little too lazy when I'm on holiday to consort with details like this... I liked coming off the Beech 1900 aircraft and letting Aman do the rest.

Enjoy!

We drove in from Las Vegas and it was an easy 4.5 - 5 hour drive( very scenic). A well posted road sign (after leaving Big Water) reads Larkspur Road were you make a right and follow the dirt road to gate of Amangiri.
