Luxury Hotels West Hollywood/Beverly Hills with four year old

I'm traveling to LA from Ireland in Jan with my husband and four year old daughter. I'm looking at luxury hotels in W Hollywood and BH. Stayed in the Bel Air and liked it a few years back so, I'm looking for something similar.

Prices seem very high and there seems to be no negotiating over the phone which used to be the case.

I've reserved a suite at Chateau Marmont. Is it worth the money? There are very few shots available of the suites and that worries me. I know it's more boho than luxury but is it crummy?

What attracts me most to the hotel is the garden area and out door space which we will need for our little girl.

Love some feed back.

Thanks

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaE71-2/100.07.76; Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413)

You might consider the Sunset Marquis. Very nice grounds, family-friendly, all suites and villas have kitchens (might come in handy for thr four year old's snacks, milk, juice, etc), Also, thry were recently offering a sale of up to 30% off regular rates.

Also, you might want to read the Luxury Hotels forum for more information from folk who stay at places like Bel Air on reg basis, etc. There are also a few new hotels such as the London WH that you might want to check into re: suites, amenitities, location, etc.

Cheers.

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

Since your focus is on luxury hotels, I am going to move this into that forum. You'll find a number of folks expert on that topic.

The peninsula is an obvious choice...

Welcome to Flyertalk, gaffo.

The Montage BH is another option that may be worth considering.

With a young child you may also want to consider Shutters at the Beach. If you have a car, it is an easy drive to WeHo or BH. Good place for kids. Casual beachside restaurant, easy access to Santa Monica Pier, restaurants and, of course, there is the beach.

I highly recommend the London West Hollywood. We just stayed there last weekend with my 2.5 year-old son. The staff are outstanding in every way and the rooms are gorgeous and very comfortable. We had a Crown Suite which was a large open-plan room with balcony. We asked and received a room facing South, which provided an incredible view of the surrounding areas. The breakfast buffet, which was included in our room rate, was delicious and plentiful (it is a Gordon Ramsay restaurant). They also have a rooftop pool where we would hang out with our son each day for a few hours since the weather was so nice (January weather is less predictable, however). Their rates are surprisingly low for what they offer- a real bargain. I suspect that the rates will start to creep up in the next year or two since they have become quite popular (they were voted the hottest new city hotel by Conde Nast or Travel and Leisure). Try to book with a Virtuoso agent so you can receive extra amenities (like a room upgrade and breakfast). Hope this helps.

I'm with Obscure2k on this one. Shutters on the Beach is the best hotel in the LA area for families. In addition to sterling Pacific views, the hotel has a wonderful heated pool with a spacious patio area. In the bathrooms you'll find toy whales and other fun gifts when you arrive.

In all honesty, the Chateau Marmont, like the renovating Bel Air, is just not a great hotel for families, or at least its not the demographic best suited for this property. I would imagine that you'll spend more time on the Santa Monica Pier than Sunset Blvd with a four-year old anyway. That said, the Chateau is neither "Boho" nor "crummy." It's a nice, discrete, upscale hotel in a busy part of town and with rooms boasting ample square-footage. I'm just not recommending it or its prestigious neighbors to you.

I disagree about Shutters on the Beach. Although a lovely hotel, January is not a great time to be staying in Santa Monica. It's always a few degrees cooler there at any time of the year and so it's not really beach weather. If you stay away from the beach, there is more likelihood that it will be warm enough to go swimming in a hotel pool with your child. Santa Monica is also not as centrally located.

I totally agree, Shutters is great and is both luxurious and with fantastic beach views and beach access. Kids seem very welcomed... Restaurants are top notch. You are also near the pier and rides in Santa Monica. (Last time I was at Shutters, Angelina Jolie walked through the lobby...) I find the Chateau a little too druggy / twenty something celeb and not what I consider a great atmosphere for kids.

Shutters is a fine choice for a family. And in January, the temperature is rarely different than that it Beverly Hills or West Hollywood. Summer is a different issue.

The Pacific Ocean is cold - brrrrrrr - even in the summer - so I can't see any reason to stay on the beach - especially in January. Los Angeles hotels tend to be kind of "grown up" - but we saw a lot of families with kids during our stay at the FS Los Angeles (it's just outside BH) this summer. It has a nice roof top pool (heated) - and families seemed to spend a lot of time there. The hotel started (needed) room renovations in the early fall - and I don't know when they'll be done. Check. Rates on the website are as of today only posted until 12/31/09. There are stay 2 nights - get 1 free rates. I supect they will be extended into 2010 - but they're not yet posted.

Also - if you book through a Four Seasons Preferred Partner travel agent (if you don't have one - you can find one here - or I can PM you with contact information for mine) - you will get a room upgrade if available and included breakfast (through room service or in the dining room - I think the patio dining area is so pleasant I kicked myself out of bed - got dressed - and ate there every morning). I suggest an executive suite. Separate bedroom for adults - and your child can sleep on the sofa bed in the living area. You can be together - but private - if you know what I mean.

My big caveat about Los Angeles is that traffic is simply horrible. You never know when a drive is going to take 30 minutes or 90. You didn't say why you were going to Los Angeles - or what you wanted to do. But traffic is a big consideration. You want to stay relatively close to what you want to/have to do. Robyn

I would avoid the marmont. While I love reserving suites there with my friends, it is not a place for a family. It is meant for people who want to party while staying in LA. Sunset marquis's grounds and rooms are fine for children, but is also more couple/adult focused. I would recommend the peninsula or the beverly hills hotel. The beverly hills hotel is going to have more grounds and be more relaxed, and the peninsula will be good, because it is the peninsula. Peninsula is also slightly more convenient.
