Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas Celebrates Opening with Free Rooms Promotion
The 392-room Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas is to open its doors on December 4, 2009, and to celebrate, the hotel has launched an introductory promotion. Valid through February 28, 2010, the promotion provides one night of complimentary accommodation in conjunction with one or more consecutive paid nights of stay. Rates start at US$545 and reservations are subject to availability.
The Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas will be one of the only free-standing, non-gaming luxury properties on the Las Vegas Strip. Standing at the gateway of CityCenter, MGM MIRAGE’s new urban resort destination opening later this year, the hotel and residences have been designed by award-winning architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox, with contemporary interior design by Adam D. Tihany.
Easily accessible, just a 10-minute drive from the McCarran International Airport, the property’s 23rd floor Sky Lobby will have views of The Strip and a sky bridge to Crystals, CityCenter’s 500,000-square-foot retail district.
Every guestroom and suite at the Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas will be equipped with state-of-the-art, technology and cutting-edge entertainment systems. Three lavish presidential suites will sit at the height of luxury on the hotel’s top floors, each measuring over 3,200 square feet and offering panoramic views of CityCenter, The Strip and the surrounding desert mountains.
The two-level, 27,000-square-foot Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas will offer a wide range of holistic and rejuvenating services. With 17 treatment areas, including seven couples’ suites and three VIP suites, the Spa will also feature multiple relaxation and water experiences, an expansive Fitness Center, yoga studio and a magnificent pool facility with 20 cabanas. The Poolside Café will serve fresh cuisine to further enhance the holistic experience.
A selection of gourmet dining and cocktail venues will be offered on property, including the hotel’s signature restaurant, Twist, where award-winning Chef Pierre Gagnaire will infuse the simplicity of classic French cuisine with a modern spin. Located off the 23rd floor Sky Lobby, Twist will offer expansive city views from floor-to-ceiling windows. Situated adjacent to the Sky Lobby, The Mandarin Bar will offer a vibrant ambiance for cocktails. Mozen Bistro, an all-day contemporary kitchen, will serve authentic Asian dishes and multi-national fare, while the Tea Lounge will be a scenic meeting place with an extensive menu of teas. At street-level lining Las Vegas Boulevard, Amore Patisserie will serve a variety of gourmet pastries, cakes, sandwiches, coffee, teas and hand-made gelato to passing guests and visitors.
The hotel will offer 12,000 square feet of dedicated MICE space. The 7,650-square-foot Oriental Ballroom, will offer views of The Strip, while three smaller venues, The Mandarin Boardroom, The Lotus Room and The Jade Room will offer a more intimate space for smaller gatherings. All of the hotel’s function spaces will be equipped with technologically advanced amenities including live broadcast capabilities.

Pierre Gagnaire is certainly creating a lot of buzz.

I know Kagehitokiri and I had posted this information (not the press release) in other threads earlier and I recall wondering how the MO thought it would be able to get $545 a night for its basic room. Even with the free night thrown in, I am not sure if this is such a great deal....
My guess is that their rates will fall quickly. I recall that the MO Tokyo opened with the highest rates in Tokyo and had to adjust those as well.....

I'm guessing that the MO LV is trying to capitalize on the city's convention season, which runs December - April, with their $545 base rate. As the press release confirms, they're really pushing their meeting facilities, though given the lackluster convention season of '08 (and with most companies still in the well), I too would be surprised if they managed to drum up decent business.

MO tries hard to keep up the price points, but when it doesn't work, they'll bend over and take it like everybody else. I just spent 3 nights at the MO Riviera Maya, where the "posted" rate was $600++. I ended up paying $260 including breakfast and taxes...

+1,
Same thing happened at the MO MIA and DCA. They started off high priced then reduced rates by 2/3 rds.

They were running a $300 USD credit per night, applicable to all expenses, including room rate, so the effective rate per night with breakfast was $330. Furthermore, once I got to the resort, they were offering a very favorable F/X rate to the dollar quote if you paid in Pesos. The rate was 10.50 MXP/USD. So, the $330 converted into 3,465 Pesos, which then my US credit card "took back" into USD at $13.50 or so, so the net USD was $260, give or take.
Don't know how long these credits are running, but I would assume you won't find them in high season.
One free night with one paid when the one paid night is $545++ doesn't sound like a very good deal for Las Vegas in the current economic environment.
. . .esp. w/contemporaneously opening Aria hotel & casino now offering promotional rates of $139/nt. (per a note from a friend who just checked the MGM/Mirage website).
To another poster: will be trying Twist during a visit in mid-January. I've been to both Guy Savoy (Vegas and Paris) and Robuchon (Vegas only) and will be happy to post my analysis. With this project being Gagnaire's first in the US, I'm expecting it will be nothing short of spectacular.

Looking forward to your report. Pierre Gagnaire is my favorite of the Paris 3-stars, but I'm considerably less enamored of Sketch.
