Perhaps more in the infamous category is Harry and Leona Helmsley who used to own the New York Palace hotel.
Going back into time many of the top echelon families in the US were hoteliers: Astor, Waldorf, Flagler, Vanderbilt (I think)

Didn't hear about his Raffles being sold.

The Savoy London is a Fairmont. Al Waleed also owns the Raffles group. He is divesting majority ownership of Raffles Singapore but the Raffles management group will continue to run it.

The Oetker Family (of Dr. Oetker products) also own Hotel Le Bristol in Paris, Hotel du Cap Eden Roc in Cap Antibes, Brenner's Park in Baden-Baden, Park Hotel Vitznau in Lucerne, and, Chateau Du Domaine St. Martin in Vence.
