Looking for Ideas for a (Complicated) Weekend Trip
Hiya.
So here's the deal.
In mid-November I want to do a trip to somewhere warm.
Optimally, I'd leave late afternoon (could get away with early afternoon, but would prefer not to), from any of the New York airports.
I want to come back as late as possible on Sunday night (maximize destination time).
The lovely person who will be joining me will be flying ex-MGA (and returning to MGA) (don't ask). Thus the complication.
She needs to get from MGA to our destination, but she's not as time constrained as I am. She doesn't, however, want to have to xfer MIA, and, frankly, I don't blame her.
I was thinking the FS Costa Rica or Amanyara - but neither one works. Costa Rica: the flight times to Liberia suck for me - the drive is painfully long for her (6 hours!) and I can't find any reliable company to do it anyway (the FS claims only to be able to arrange transporation from the border.
Amanyara actually works for her, other than she'd have to connect through MIA (as noted above, sub-optimal). But the times don't work for me on the way there (nothing but morning flights ex-NY). Also, I'm not sure if the prices that Amanyara charges are quite worth it, as much as I love Amans.
So I am at the mercy of this board's collective knowledge and wisdom. Any ideas?
Thanks! That's not a bad option, actually. I was thinking the MO there, but wasn't feeling it. I tried PVR but flights were ugly.
Will look into that now - but am certainly open to other suggestions.
ETA:
Her ticket would be $900 in coach, and the latest return is at 1pm. That's ridiculous for CUN. Though my options looked quite good. So now really looking for alternatives.
$ 900.00 from MGA is not bad, if your looking to save money then you should fly there and get lost some where within the country. Since it looks like its about working for you and your not keen on her having to be on a flight at 1 PM then have here stay an extra night alone. I think it would be wonderful alone at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba, just book the time in the spa and in-room dining.

I don't want to die yet.

That's what I'm thinking now. But if that's what we're going to do anyway, I'm just wondering what other options there are in terms of places I can leave late form.
considering zigzag and xracer's reports, im surprised there arent more yet.
BT was next on my list, but i did enjoy sanctuary, and im going to try and take advantage of their new deal, which is even better than the one i did over the summer. re temps, average and average low would be a lot lower at sanctuary. average high isnt that different. also not sure about flights.
The other point this brings up...not that they're comparable properties in any way...but as an RA do I stay at the IC Cozumel and hope for some marvelous suite, or just pay for a basic room at the BT and hope for a decent upgrade.
So....finally ready to book something (only 3 weeks after I had hoped to), but now have the option of connecting through anywhere reasonable (including the US).
I still can't leave until Friday afternoon and need to be back Friday night. She can do whatever, including arriving before/leaving after me, even by a night.
Any new suggestions, other than Mexico? I'd love Anguilla/T&C but can't find any flights that work to those places - but something along those lines but more accessible might work.
Florida - it's a no-brainer. Or somewhere else in the southern part of the US. Or perhaps a trip where you fly into X in the US - and leave out of Y (if you want to hit a couple of places). Robyn
NO! Stick with the CUN airport and Banyan Tree if you want your socks knocked off. Its perfect, she will be on at least three flights if not four to get to Anguilla and none of the resorts can beat BT.
