I fail to understand why there is a private pool when the lagoon is just outside the door or down a few steps from the balcony.

That's certainly not unique to this resort. A huge amount of villas (overwater and beach) in the Maldives have private pools presumably because luxury is having the choice. Nice to be able to go in your private pool at night when swimming in a pitch black lagoon wouldn't be the smartest idea.

Because you want to both snorkel and want to swim naked with your SO? One of those is appropriate in a lagoon, and one in a private pool...

It is possible to do both in a lagoon

Probably, yes. Anything built on stilts in the lagoon is environmentally and aesthetically displeasing but most people who go to these places don't care. Soneva Fushi seemed to be pitched about right.

No offence but it saddens me to see the resort structures on that glowing blue water.

I had the same reaction.

Always nice to have the choice - saltwater, late at night etc.

I often use my private pool after dinner. Wouldn´t go in the lagoon.

In Bora Bora we enjoyed swimming with the Manta Rays in the evening.

to ridefar's comment, can stand in pool (depth?)
seems pools are saltwater and 13+ meters long

web reservations: sometimes sold out 1BRs, selling 4BRs

And now, the most important question: how was the air con in the villa and main public spaces? I didn't notice any air con units or vents.

I must confess to being in agreement with some others in that the resort, while seemingly beautiful, looks not so genuinely Maldivian nor so appealing from the beaches. And definitely the least green resort perhaps in the whole of the Maldives, being constructed almost entirely overwater.
Fabulous though they are, I am afraid Soneva resorts may not work well for you given your well known aircon requirements. Emphasis is on outdoor/open air living spaces. Bedrooms and interior living spaces are air conditioned, while bathrooms are usually open air.

I think his air conditioning issue is specifically about bedrooms, no? I'm the same, without needing a 'specific' temperature - it just needs to be adequately cold, and particularly at night otherwise I can't sleep (which makes going with friends/family/anyone else a pain unless I have my own bedroom)

Some of the best sleep I've had has been at Six Senses - not sure if it was to do with their bedding/pillows, or the fact that the room was sufficiently cooled.

It's just ... so ... MUCH.

Overwhelming.

Pass.
