Agreed regarding the view.

I imagine the Marina Bay Sands must have some epic views as well although I don't know anyone who has rated it well with the exception of a poster here on FT who was able to stay on some kind of "high value players level" which is apparently a hotel within a hotel and only bookable by invitation. As I don't gamble I doubt I will be getting an invitation anytime soon.

Here's the shot I just took from the club lounge:

I suspect the views of Marina Bay Sands are better than the views from Marina Bay Sands. It's why I reckon One Altitude is a much better bar for views than Ku de ta.

Prince William and Catherine have decided that Raffles is the best Luxury Hotel in Singapore That's where they're staying on their official visit.
I wonder which suite they're staying in - we've stayed at both the Somerset
Maugham and the Joseph Conrad Suites (pre renovation)

I seriously doubt they decided where they'll be staying themselves. Raffles represents tradition so it makes sense. Can you see them staying at a W?

Thought that the Valley Wing at the Shangri La generally had the highest ratings for security.

No, the W would be more Harry's style

Probably Raffles suite or Sarkis.
I remember in 2005 during his last visit in Singapore French President Jacques Chirac stayed at the Raffles. It is so iconic.

I wouldn't use where world leaders stay as a guide to luxury hotels.

Goodness- the President of the United States always stays at the Waldorf Astoria in New York- which wouldn't make the list of most people even in the Top 50 hotels in NYC.

In PRC a number of leaders are hosted at the (oldish) Portman RC- which is an OK 4 star but not one of the top hotels in Shanghai.

Just 2 of many examples.

TRAVELSIG is right. The President stays at the Warldorf for security reasons: underground garage and, indeed, private train station that allows for quick, secret departures and arrivals. In Singapore, the major US diplomats and delegations stay at the Shangri-La because one of the wings (Valley?) has good security infrastructure. Since I'm not quite as worried about that personally, I don't use it as a guide for where I should stay. By the same token, with Royals, you might have the bounds of history dictacting where to stay. Except in Harry's case--- and I'd have thought MBS, not a W for him.

The other thing to consider is that people who've always had money and who live in stately piles or grand mansions (often with threadbare sofas, antique furniture etc) themselves are not so worried about whether the hotels they stay in are considered 'Luxury' or not - they would probably stay at a hotel such as Raffles or one of the other Grand Dames rather than a more modern place . A modern bathroom at a Holiday Inn might be considered luxurious to them
I was at a drinks party at my next door neighbours who are 'shooting, hunting and fishing' types. There were several obviously wealthy guests (at least 2 with titles) some of whom have villas in France etc - the conversation turned to holidays as one had just come back from Safari. I thought I'd ask if any of them had ever stayed in an Aman but of about eight people standing around in my group only one had heard of them
I've been at the SF IC when Obama has been in residence.

neither are luxury but if your first visit marina Bay Sands is a good hotel
I stayed there last year
obviously if you are a repeat visitor or after true luxury stay elsewhere
I liked the look of Fullerton Bay if I am ever back in Singapore
