Strange re Excelsior Hong Kong, whilst it doesn't fit in with their brand I read a few years back that not only was it used as the groups Head Office it was their most profitable hotel. I have read that local land prices in Causeway Bay have gone through the roof.

Well good reason to sell, no?

I wonder if Jan-Hendrik Meidinger will stay with MO -- he did a wonderful job at PH Saigon but left Hyatt to lead the Excelsior (which has traditionally been a testing ground for new GMs at MO).

What is going on in Dubai?

http://www.hoteliermiddleeast.com/31...6Jfy8t.twitter

Seems as though the Viceroy on the Palm is temporarily closed due to a dispute. Sounds very Miami to me!

This "tussle" between the owner [Five Holdings] and the manager [Viceroy] is reported in the [hotels-related] press for a few weeks now.

Looks like they might sue each other, especially from the Viceroy side towards the owner.

Time will tell, I guess.

Cheers & Safe Travels. ^

The fact that they are ignoring a court order is not a good sign to send out to other Dubai hotel owners...

Admiralty Arch Hotel in London?

Any idea as to which hotel group will get the Admiralty Arch property? The decision is expected to be announced this year...

Yeah, the Armani suggestion from 2013 holds less weight to me when the 2016 and 2017 news reports all fail to mention any hotel operator...and that the operator will be named in 2017.

I guess we will have to wait and see who will eventually manage this new hotel, but the Armani suggestion at least was a good data point.

High quality, superior amenities and setting can be expected, plus a high overnight rate [naturally] when the iconic one of a kind building, location and investment are all considered and taken into account.

Maybe Aman? [They might want to grow their city footprint around the world and have a go]

If the Qatari owned former US embassy actually becomes a St Regis, as many expect, then only Aman and Park Hyatt (and Armani) are brands that seem appropriate. Aman obviously makes sense, and Doronin has deep pockets to try and make it happen. Armani seems a bad choice IMO, considering the actual lack of proper reputation for any of its other properties and the obviously historic nature of the property. St. Regis also makes sense for this property, assuming Marriott doesn't press for the Embassy property. Park Hyatt also should be salivating.

Totally agree with you that Armani would be a bad choice and I can't see Armani working well in the London market. The targeted clientele already loves Bulgari.

Don't believe it is Park Hyatt, personally -- although I haven't heard anything. Doronin could bring in a consortium to purchase and develop, but remember he bought Aman Corporate and created the new holding, A.H. Overseas, but I don't see him owning too many Amans around the world, aside from those already in ownership (think Jena 50% etc). This wouldn't make too much sense. Bought NYC building also in partnership, along with Michael Shvo.

Agreed. Aman would be operator, not owner--since the Admiralty Arch building is a long term lease. I'd heard rumors of Aman looking in Mayfair, but this historic building is so right up Aman's alley.

I also have a tough time imagining Park Hyatt, but its Vienna bank conversion was a big hard product success (even if its soft product needs work). Still, it likely will make a play here or for the former US embassy as it definitely wants a London presence. I'm assuming the US embassy will become a St. Regis since the Qatari ownership already has numerous St. Regis properties in its portfolio.
