I have been chief editor at HOTELS for more than 22 of the 50 years we have celebrated throughout this year.

...at the end of the day it always comes back to hiring the right people to deliver intuitive service. It will remain elusive and the holy grail of success. Service should remain king; if not, heaven help us all.
elusive indeed, thankfully there is this forum !

The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong has unveiled the first of two new suite offerings it plans to introduce in 2017.

Mandarin Oriental to open new Honolulu hotel

Hong Kong-based Mandarian Oriental Hotel Group is coming back to Hawaii as part of a partnership with Salem Partners, a Los Angeles-based investment bank and wealth management firm. The two companies will open a 36-story mixed-use tower across from Honolulu's Hawaii Convention Center in early 2020.

The 232-unit Manaolana Place project will include 125 hotel rooms and 107 residences. The 400-foot-high mixed-use project will be located near a new rail transit station in Honolulu.

When it opens, this hotel will be the first hotel under the Mandarin Oriental brand in Hawaii since 2006, when The Kahala Hotel & Resort was rebranded as an independent property.

(even if they do not include any other of the many bvlgari dubai residences in hotel inventory)

How far away are they? Is this a big deal for these two hotels? Sounds like they're geared for the business travelers than the leisure travelers.

Is Rosewood still opening in Baha Mar now?

Curious if Bulgari Dubai will be able to sustain these rates in the long run. Their Bali resort started promising but is nowhere near competition these days. For design and service reasons, mostly. Bulgari seems to excel in cities, their concept is not very suitable for resort environments. Wonder how they will market the Dubai property. Who owns Bulgari Dubai?

The worst thing about Bulgari is its proximity to FS Dubai, which now has not much sea view left. I wonder about noise from Jumeirah Bay Island and its restaurants there as well, could be an issue. Undoubtedly FS is in the middle of everything now more than ever before, but not really a calm resort.

bvlgari is 16.5% villas (nothing similar in dubai) with only 101 additional rooms & suites. hypothetically if the bvlgari villas were $9K, they would match burj al arab's low season maximum average, by themselves (the 20 villas), without the 101 rooms & suites

bvlgari bali never well regarded here, nor original milan
pretty well regarded london is a franchise (could be why)

new RC HNL (hotel) is 100% residences, building 2nd tower
halekulani tiny beach https://www.bing.com/maps?osid=29c8f...=2&form=S00027

interesting that owner of rosewood corporate acquired baha mar development
1000-room casino GH + 700-room GH (total 1800 rooms now)
300-room SLS (potentially starwood/marriott?)
200-room Rosewood
tribune242.com/news/2017/jan/24/baha-mar-finishes-grand-hyatt-deal/
He confirmed that Rosewood, which is owned by CTFE, and SLS Lux remained as Baha Mar’s other two operator brands, with their properties expected to open in December 2017.
bummer, FS NY got rid of 2 studio suites on 50th floor (had floor to ceiling windows)
combined 2 of them plus 6 tower rooms on that floor into a new 3BR 4,300ft2 suite

good news - FS anguilla and hoi an rates havent gotten crazy yet (beachfront villas)

I knew that, I just know it's a massive development. I didn't know if Rosewood was still on track to open.

Gallivanter's reporting on Twitter now legendary GM Amanda Hyndman leaving MO Bangkok and retiring to Scotland. Speechless. Khun Kurt made The Oriental what it is today, La Grande Dame, but out of all GMs Amanda Hyndman perfected it and brought it into 21st century. She arrived with standards slipping after Jan Goessing's cost cutting galore and fixed every single problem. Hats off! Needless to say the property as it is now is in its prime, who will follow? It will be an achievement for the new GM coming in to even uphold the status quo.
