Just coming back to update this thread as to we how we got on with our flights on Monday 29 May (55 minute connection) and Friday 2 June (90 minute connection).
...
So overall we made both of our connections, but it was not a pleasant or relaxed experience. Thanks very much for all the advice here, as knowing what we were likely to encounter at each stage was very welcome.

Although I use them whenever I can (usually at the top of the lift into B non-Schengen) I don't think biometric passport gates in FRA are as good as those in Manchester. I didn't realise there were different age restrictions in the UK and Germany for using biometric gates.

Arrivals in Z (rather than the level above) or AEUW should be 'clean' but there is no way you can connect to a flight departing from B non-Schengen without clearing security (unless you enter Schengen by going through passport control to A, walk through the tunnel and go through passport control again into B non-Schengen).

The only way to avoid transfer security is to go through passport control to A, walk through the tunnel and go through passport control into B. Only recommended if you can use EasyPass gates.

Hoping an LH expert can help this KLM guy out as I'm not often in FRA. I'm flying AMS-FRA-PEK in July, 70 minute connection. Feels a bit tight, even worse that it seems the AMS-FRA is often delayed.
Any tips on the connection? If the inbound is delayed, how much luck can I expect with rebooking on other carriers (especially Star Alliance, but there are a few other options as well). I'd like to avoid a "sit around and wait 24 hours" situation when plenty of options could minimise the delay. I plan to arrive armed with alternatives both at AMS (if delay even before departure looks problematic) and FRA -- but any tips on best way to manage?
Many thanks, greetings from AMS.

Arriving from PVG in F (A380) connecting to Barcelona in J, is it faster to walk to the schengen gate F lounge or to walk to the FCT? (usually, I understand they may use a different set of gates the day of travel)

If you arrive, for example, at Z50 and depart from a bus gate then the FCL A is the best proposition. Short walk and car to the plane, lounge is nearly identical.
If on the other hand you arrive at Z69 and depart from A42 then the walk to the FCT is much shorter than the walk to the other end of the A pier. And you will be driven to your BCN flight from the FCT, not from the FCL A.
In any case you will need to go through security check which is more "civilized" at the FCT, and Schengen-immigration.
If you care most about the car transfer then go to the FCT.

Today's LH993 arrived late (16:37) at BSO, a bus gate at the B pier. LH720 departed from Z54. This would have required a walk from B to A, passport control at A and another (short) walk to Z54. However with the delayed arrival plus bus, it would have been doubtful if you had made it.
In that case there is a chance that either they would have rebooked you AMS-MUC-PEK, or provided a direct transfer (especially if there were a few pax connecting to FRA-PEK). Worst case they would rebook you on the next available flight and provide a hotel for you.

However, in order to go to the FCL you will have to clear transfer security and passport control. I'd go to the FCT in order to avoid transfer security.

There is no 'transfer' security as such at the FCT since everybody is treated the same whether transferring in FRA or starting there. Security in B (not transfer security) is shared by transfer and originating passengers but the former can jump the queue (in reality it doesn't make much difference). Although I haven't been there for a while, security on the way to C gates may treat transfer and originating passengers in the same way. But this discussion is getting a little pedantic.

I'm considering taking JFK-FRA-KIX all on LH. The connecting time is 1 hour and 20 minutes. We will be arriving in FRA at noontime. So from what I've read, we will not have to clear immigration but there may be security checks. Is this doable?

If the JFK flight arrives at a Z gate and the KIX flight departs from Z, as they have been doing recently, there's no need to clear security either. You can just walk from one Z gate to another without passport control or security!

I won't be flying for a couple more months, but if one of the flights get changed to A/B gate, how long will security usually take? Is noontime a busy time for FRA?

Posted in another thread, but might have more info here.
Arriving CX F HKG-FRA and departing FRA-FLR on LH Y. on different tickets.
Am I allowed access to any lounge?
As CX has interline agreement with LH, I should be able to check the bags all the way through?
