Is there access from the Level 3 Concourse Z gates to Level 2 Concourse A?
If so is it faster to walk through Concourse A rather than taking the Sky Line?

Concourse A is Schengen so you can only go there from Concourse Z via passport control which is in the central atrium area where the old A/Z and new A/Z (gate 50 and above) meet.
You can only go from A to C via the Skyline train (the same as Z to C) and walking or by going landside and reclearing passport control and security. Not recommended to someone who is not familiar with FRA and without an EU passport.

You don't need to go through passport check if you stay in secure area of the airport. For what to do during your layover check this page on FRA website or search for 'FRA layover' in the Germany forum.

The paid lounge (Luxx Lounge) is landside so you cannot go there without going through passport control twice.

Not just between the US and Thailand. If you are connecting between non-Schengen countries (or between Schengen countries) you don't need to go through passport control.

The lounge being landside is a disappointment. I have a 6-hr layover in FRA and I would have loved to use it but I don't wanna go through the hassle of passport check.

That 10-minute hassle (at worst) sure beats sitting around for 5 hours!

Referring to the map on page 23 (the last page) of this brochure:

I will be taking the Sky Line from Concourse Z stop to Concourse B stop. I need to get to a gate at C Concourse.
After the stop at the Concourse B Sky Line stop, do I need to go through security? Someone told me I do. The map clearly shows I do not.
After exiting the Sky Line B stop do I go to the left or right? Is the stop on the left or right hand side of that hallway? The map is not clear

The entrance to the Skyline train platform in Z is near gate Z16. You will have to go through security on the way to C concourse but it's a long time since I followed the route last (I was fortunate enough to be able to leave the terminal to go to the FCT instead of walking to a C gate last month) so cannot say exactly where security check points are. The Skyline trains have separate Schengen/public and non-Schengen carriages and the entrance to the Schengen/public platform is shown in J4. The Skyline logo in M2 is misleading because the entrance is not where the logo appears. So you cannot tell from the map where security is located because non-Schengen B/C stop is not even shown.
When you get to the Skyline stop for B/C, you go down the escalator and turn left at the bottom then turn right. If you turn right and right again you end up in B Concourse. But you shouldn't need to know all this in advance. All you (or your parents) need to do is to follow the signs.

I thought they would be non-Schengen but from what it says it seems it should be Schengen /public. They are American. Why wouldn't they be non-Schengen?
Who can use the Fast Track security lanes? It is my understanding that if a flight is within a certain time period, a passenger can use it.

Does FRA have free wifi at the airport at airside for transit passengers?
If so, for how long is the connection free?
We'll have 3-4 hrs in FRA (airside) so hoping we can use wifi to kill some time.

This isn't a matter of choice - as long as they follow the signs to their gate, they'll be directed to the proper platform. It's physically impossible to board the wrong carriage.

When they get to the Sky Train platform are they going to have to determine which platform/carriage to go to and board? If so do they board the Schengen/public or non-Schengen?
