Hi guys,

my parents are flying OS BRU-VIE on the 25th of June to connect onto a QR flight.

Is 3 hours and a half enough time for them to collect the baggage and re-checkin for the QR flight? (Ofcourse hoping there won't be any delays or cancellations)

I can't see this being a problem at any airport, much less a relatively small and simple one like VIE. This looks like a simple intra-Schengen route, so basically no obstacle to getting to baggage claim. QR website doesn't have airport-specific info on check-in time frame (just the standard 3 hours). I've not flown QR personally. But, I imagine OLCI from BRU is totally appropriate if your parents know with how many bags they plan to check.

Okay thanks for the info!
Thought it would be sufficiënt time to get it done, they're flying J with Qatar so shouldn't take too long to check in either.

No worries. And furthermore, I think the Qatar flight leaves from Terminal 3, the same terminal as the flight from BRU. So no terminal change should be required.

Hi!
Looking into a somewhat-complex itinerary, and adding a transfer at VIE drops the price by about $100.
However, it would be a 1h transfer, non-Schengen to Schengen, ZAG-VIE-CDG, on flights OU440 and AF1139.
I've transferred at VIE before but it was Star to Star, so I'm wondering how you're feeling about this connection?
Of course, it's on the same ticket, and baggage will be checked through.

klanfa,

i assume your through ticket would be on OS, which code-shares with AF on the VIE-CDG route. I can't comment on pricing, but note that the AF-operated flight leaves from Terminal 1 and you'll have to go through security again from T3 Schengen arrival to T1 Schengen departure.

Thanks for the reply David!
The ticket would actually be on AF (weird but such is airline pricing).
I would arrive from T3 non-Schengen, right? ZAG is still out of Schengen. Either way, how would you feel about 1h connection?

kanfa,

sorry, my bad - yes, you'd arrive T3 non-Schengen. Which may even be better as there is a direct walkway from T3 non-SChengen to T1 "D" (non-Schengen) that you can leave to get to T1 C (Schengen).

Follow signage to T1 "C".

1 hour is perfectly fine in Vienna.

Good reading on this thread for connections..looks like an efficient place to connect. We will be arriving from Berlin on AB at 10am on a Wed morning at 10am in late August..connecting in Berlin from the US. Hope to have no checked luggage. We leave at 3 hours later on an Austrian flight to Sarajevo..it is on separate tickets but it seems like plentry of time. First time in Vienna airport. Will we be able to check in online for the Sarajevo flight? It was booked online on the Austrian website and seats are paid for and assigned. US passport holders..Will i need to change terminals?

Hi worldiswide,

you will arrive in T1 (B/C gates) with AB, most likely leaving T3 (G gates). At times the SJJ flights leave from T1 (D gates). It's a 10-15min walk, going through security.

you will be able to check in at T-47h on austrian.com.

Given AB recent on-time history, I would recommend to watch the TXL-VIE sector until departure and request a routing through DUS should the flight have been cancelled early (unlikely, but still). Even with only 1 hour to spare in case of an operational delay, you should be okay given you don't have to wait for checked luggage to be delivered.

I've got an upcoming transit through VIE on OS where I am connecting from LAX to BKK with a layover time of about 8 hours. Does anyone know if I will be able to check my bag through for both flights, or will I have to reclaim and recheck my bag in VIE because it is a long layover? Both flights are on the same ticket, and I am in business class if it makes any difference.

the only place where I had issue checking bags all the way on a longer layover recently was where the security is done by TSA. No issues on OS, your bags will go all the way.

Even if you dont check your bag all the way through there is a very convenient bag storage area in VIE on departure level to the right (a few euros, cash only)

Thanks, the main reason I ask is that I plan to go into Vienna during my layover, but wanted to make sure that I didn't forget to pick up/recheck my bags in case they did not check it through with a longer layover.

Thanks for all the good information. I have been reading about the AB issues, but it seems to be getting a little better more recently, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
