My collegues sometime had a transfer at VIE to TLV - they said never again. The flight was actually El Al metal, with OS codeshare, and they've just made it. Landing at the other end of VIE airport, running through to the other end to face the famous El Al security check. True to their technical-savvy Finnish style they had no print-out version of their etix/boarding pass, only an SMS checkin - this made it nearly into a "no-fly" situation.

In view of this, 50 mins should be just enough but don't get lost in the shopping arcade :-))

Both flights are on one ticket, so I know theoretically OS should put us on the next available flight, but the rub is, being a few days before Pesach it is probably the busiest time of the year to fly to Israel and I suspect all OS and LY flights are fully booked.

Also, is there anyway we can request seats? I cannot get seat assigment on their website.
I, and my parents, have done it - no problem. Before Pesach last year a good proportion of the LHR-VIE pax were connecting to TLV.
On the way back they even got bumped to the direct BA flight, which arrived earlier than the OS option - and got EUR 300 IDB compensation out of it per person!

Sometimes the same plane is used.

Schengen to Non-Schengen Connection at VIE - Feasible?

Hey Guys,
I'm scheduled for a hot connection at VIE in May when I fly FRA-VIE-TLV. The flights are:

16MAY08 FLT OS128 LV FRA 0800 AR VIE 0930
16MAY08 FLT OS857 LV VIE 1040 AR TLV 1505

19MAY08 FLT OS858 LV TLV 1600 AR VIE 1850
19MAY08 FLT OS127 LV VIE 1945 AR FRA 2120

Seeing as I have 1:10 going and 00:55 coming, transiting Schengen to Non-Schengen and v.v., will I have any timing issues? My main concern is since my flight is Israeli-bound, tighter security may affect the connection. This is also
one of the rare occasions when I plan to check in a bag; will I have any issues with that too? Thanks!

PS- Normally I would go ahead and scout the connection out, which I can do at FRA and MUC, but VIE is a little out of reach for that!

As VIE is a small airport and connecting there normally not an issue at all you should be fine. I guess you are on one ticket anyway.

If there is any need to worry its the outbound segment as already pointed out by yourself. But again, VIE is pretty easy to navigate and as OS let you book this trip there is no need to worry at all IMHO.

Cheers

Security for TLV-bound OS flights is not too intensive - just a few questions at the gate, then the standard (for VIE) gate X-rays. If you arrive at the gate in time, you'll be fine. They always use a finger position in the A concourse - A5 IIRC.

I had that same connection, on the way to TLV, no problem. But on the way back the flight was delayed by half an hour so I made it after running through the airport, but my luggage did not. The luggage probably would have made it if my plane hadn't been late. Only negative thing about Vienna airport is that its not very straight forward how to get to the schengen area from the non-schengen area, but it's no problem if you've been there at least once.

So it's definitely possible.

I know it is not with LH but I have the same question

I booked with fly niki this flight
DME VIE 31.07.08 17:35 18:20 HG8107
VIE CDG 31.07.08 18:55 20:45 HG8734

Is it realy feasible?? 0:35min from non-schengen to schengen area?

If something goes wrong, wich is clearly possible, what should I do?

thnks

Yes, 35 minutes is doable at VIE, but you shouldnīt have any delay.

I believe MCT Shengen-Shengen is 15 minutes at VIE?
I have had some unbelievably tight connections VCE-VIE-ARN and have never missed one.
I actually love VIE airport for this- fastest connections in EU!

I know, that it is possible to have a 15 minutes connection. If it is less than 15 minutes, you will be rebooked.

MCT is 25 for Schengen-Schengen at VIE.

Yes, which is wonderful!
Compare that to CDG, MAD, LHR, FCO (shudder), or even FRA! (I don't mention MXP anymore as the airport has no flights left).

Hey Guys,
I made the connection today. We were late leaving FRA due to an EF group off a late inbound. VIE was easy enough, and surprisingly enough, my bag made it!

Although mid flight the OS F/A spilled water on me, and my laptop. No apology, no assistance other than 5 cocktail napkins. That didn't help my opinion of OS...hopefully it is isolated. Will advise.

Was this an OS crew or a VO (operated by Austrian Airrows - Tyrolean) crew ?
