Thanks for the info. capedreamer, I think that's the way it's going to end up going. Following oliver2002's advice, I called into LH, though I'm not too optimistic about the outcome... The agent was at first visibly stumped, and said, "well, we don't really offer anything like that..." After a moment, though, she said that since we are in first class, the "onboard chef" would be able to accommodate her needs. For a brief second I was excited, thinking that maybe LH was responding to competition to Etihad and would soon start having a better dining experience, but then reality set in and I realized that the call center phone agent was probably exaggerating the First experience!
We'll see how it goes.

A friend of mine is flying Lufthansa First Class to Mexico City in a couple of days. His brother is joining him on the trip, who happens to be lactose intolerant. Ordering special meals in First Class would be considered a last resort, seeing how they often times don't match the standard of the ordinary meal.
How would he best go about to resolve this issue. Should his brother order a lactose free meal, would it still be possible for him to pick certain items from the ordinary menu? And also if he doesn't opt for the lactose free meal, would it still be possible to have Lufthansa load soy milk or lactose free milk onboard the flight?

Call the F helpline, they can arrange to cater special things for your friend. The SPML is always loaded on top of the regular catering.

Gluten free meal in LH F
Any recent experiences from this? There's tons of great dishes that can be naturally gluten free that are super tasty. But usually on airplanes, its the most boring, tasteless meal so wondering if anyone has any recent experiences from having a preordered meal of GF on LH in F

No special meal on short flights?
I have a ticket to fly LHR-MUC on LH in business. I haven't flown LH for a while. I could not book a special meal from the website, called customer service I was told that there are no special meals on short flights and that a vegetarian option will be available.
How reliable is that?
I find it intriguing not being able to book a special mealon an intra-European flight. Both LX and OS allow me to do it.

According to the website (I'm on the move and don't seem to be able to post the relevant link, sorry), special meals are available on services of 75+ minutes, these can be ordered up to 24 hours before the flight. I would therefore give them a call once again and make sure they understand that you're flying business class and quote what's clearly stated on their website should this be necessary.

I stood my ground quoting 105 minutes duration and 75 minutes on the website. The special meal was confirmed, success but it should not be that difficult. The system should recognise the limits and allow passengers less stubborn and assertive than yours truly to book a special meal

Is there a way to find special meal details in advance on inter-continental flights ex Germany? E.g. I typically book "AVML" & for flights from/to India, I can see the menu. Is it possible to get AVML menu details for other flights that do not depart from India?

AVML ex FRA/MUC is always the same as the set served in C/F currently on FRA/MUC-India flights. If you ask for an SPML ex outstations, there is no fixed menu, the caterer just gets creative for the adhoc meal booking.
