Never been through ATL.
Trust me though - DEL is a nightmare, especially connecting from domestic to international. One of the more stressful flight experiences I've ever had.

BA can do it ...
Just checked in for BA BOM - LHR. OK, it's not HYD, but there should be no difference. BA actually GREETS YOU AT THE CURB and escorts all F and C pax to check-in (and there's a separate check-in area for those pax, too). It's not rocket science, and it makes a huge difference to the travel experience (actually, I might not even have made it into the airport w/out the escort since I had no printout of my e-ticket with me today) - so why doesn't LH do it?!?

Lufthansa passenger service tips between fawning over Hons and indifference for the rest. After a long divorce from BA, a happy marriage with LX and a brief flirtation with LH, I'm beginning to re-appreciate the BA approach.

Chennai has improved dramatically since they opened the new terminal. Even the arrivals side which hserus described is better than it used to be.
While hiring bodyguards may be more affordable than in Europe or the U.S., I don't think it is necessary. Certainly, I have had worse airport experiences in other countries.
