One hour connection time in FRA - possible?

I have the following itinerary booked on Lufthansa and am reaching out to the FT community to see how realistic this is, particularly flying out of SFO. Your thoughts, please? Thank you.

Fri, 24NOV17 LH455
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
(SFO) 3:20 PM
FRANKFURT, GERMANY
(FRA) 11:15 AM (25NOV)

Sat, 25NOV17 LH104 X FRANKFURT, GERMANY
(FRA) 12:15 PM MUNICH, GERMANY
(MUC) 1:15 PM

Is this on one ticket? If so, the worst that will happen is you get put on a slightly later flight. It's possible to make this, but it is a bit tight, because you'll probably be doing a bit of walking. From wheels-down to gate will be at least five minutes, then ten minutes to get off plane and towards immigration, which can be 15 minutes or more, so you're now at boarding time for the MUC flight.

If you are on two tickets and you don't make it, you should expect to buy a new return FRA-MUC-FRA ticket. LH may have mercy but you shouldn't expect it.

The scheduled arrival time is when the plane is supposed to park at the gate.

Looking at this flight on FR24 for the past week, it appears that the flight is now scheduled to arrive at 11:00 AM, but all flights actually arrived between 10:29-10:48, i.e. between 12 and 31 minutes ahead of the scheduled arrival time.

Yes, it's on one ticket, but the difficulty with being put on a later flight is I also have a connection out of Munich which I would miss.

And is that connection on the same or a separate ticket? To where, with what airline?

Should you be so late you'll miss your flight to MUC, you'll be rebooked on a direct flight to BIO.

It appears that the reason for this indirect routing is because the next direct flight from FRA to BIO is not until 20:40. However the next flight to MUC departing at 13:15 should still allow the OP to connect to LH1826.

Since it seems that this is booked already, not much you can do other than go with the flow. If you are late then LH will make it right as others stated.

The time to ask your questions was before booking. Also, I have seen numerous other threads with similar question in the past few months. In short, I would not have booked this itinerary unless there were no other options.

When I tried a dummy booking this is what I got. Changes from the OP's schedule are marked in red.

Fri, 24NOV17
LH455
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
(SFO) 3:25 PM
FRANKFURT, GERMANY
(FRA) 11:15 AM (25NOV)

Sat, 25NOV17 LH104 X FRANKFURT, GERMANY
(FRA) 12:15 PM MUNICH, GERMANY
(MUC) 1:10 PM

LH1826 X MUNICH, GERMANY
(MUC) 3:25 PM
BILBAO INTERNATIONAL, SPAIN
(BIO) 5:40 PM

These flights are not until November and timing could change further between now and November. If there are further changes and the layover in FRA becomes less than 60 minutes the OP should be able to change to a later FRA-MUC flight free of charge.

It looks like the OP has an economy award ticket. MUC-BIO is a new route and probably had more award space.

A good guess judging by the OP's handle but other than SFO-MUC-BIO on LH459/LH1828 what the OP has booked is the quickest way between SFO and BIO on LH.

There are only two daily direct flights between FRA and BIO at 10:20 and 20:40 and flying from FRA via MUC allows the OP to reach BIO 5 hours earlier.

FRA-MUC goes every hour. Even with the 1:15pm flight FRA-MUC you will make your connection in MUC.

If you have to go from one terminal to another, you will see that there's a bus connecting you. The bus goes every 15 minutes, and will take you there very fast (faster than walking).

I recommend you rush to the bus. I've done it before, but I don't remember if I had only 1 hour between the connection flights.
