Question Why stop at ATH on LH694 ?

Hi, Just did a quick search and did not find anything on why the flight stops in Athens. Thanks much for some clarification.

For anyone interested, but insufficiently LH-geeky, LH694 operates between Frankfurt and Tel Aviv.

Why stop at ATH on LH694 ?

I don't know for sure but due to the rather long stop at ATH, which is too much to just change crew, potentially there is currently a curfew in Place at TLV or LH doesn't want their plane arriving at night there, as it would be an easier target?

Just checked flight status for FRA-TLV on lh.com: they have cancelled many flights to TLV in the next few days.

According to flightradar24, LH694 was FRA 21:35 - TLV 02:40 until 10 July. Then the schedule changed to FRA 22:05 - ATH 01:15 / 04:00 - TLV 06:00 for a few days until all flights to TLV were cancelled on 22 July.

It could be to avoid arriving at night as daumueller suggested. It could also be to change crews in ATH, so the same crew could operate ATH-TLV-FRA without the need to overnight in TLV.

I suspect the reason is Lufthansa Group doesn't want to overnight crews in Tel Aviv at this time. OS has canceled their late flight into and early departure from Tel Aviv but the afternoon flights in/out are intact.

It could also be that in order to minimize time on the ground in TLV, the plane is refueled at ATH.

A repeat of what's been done in the past when an overnight in TLV is to be avoided.....

If you can believe the OS website, OS will resume the second daily departure (evening) from VIE to TLV starting tomorrow (1 Aug) which presumably means they will be overnighting crews again. LH to follow?

As far as I can see at FRA LH is operating their flights to TLV again and with long haul equipment (higher number of seats available). Don't know if this is a stable operation yet.

They will be rebooked on other flights... That's standard.
