OS Europe upgrade bid question?

Does Austrian ever accept the starting bids for their upgrades? We have a CPH-VIE and a VIE-LHR coming up. The starting bids are $75 and $95 respectively which seems to be about all they are worth considering economy 30in pitch seats. Also, do you get lounge access with these upgrades? Thanks.

You'll find your answers on the FT master thread and on the OS internet site:

Austrian Upgrade to Business from IAD

I purchased a ticket a combo OS (in Y) / LH (in J) with LH ticket numbers. I was under the impression that I can 1) make use of Smart Upgrade, 2) Select Y seats online, and 3) Be able to check-in online. It turns out I can't do either.

Flying out IAD-AMM on OS94 to Vienna (the segment I am concerned about)

Does anyone have experience checking in online while not having a OS ticket number? Anyone was able to upgrade online? or at the airport? Preferably from IAD, but welcome all feedback.

Thank you in advance

Fad

I think it has to be on OS ticket stock as far as I remember. I'm not even sure you can pull the booking up on the OS website if it is not. I recall looking into this in detail, but maybe somebody can correct me?

I am able to pull the reservation online as it is a LH ticket and the outbound flight IAD AMM is a pure OS flight. I am not sure if I am able to checkin online and if so, if I will have the opportunity to upgrade upon checkin online.

Checkin should be no problem, the red|upgrade won't work unless on 257/OS ticket stock. At the airport they will gladly sell you an upgrade if space is available, but at a fixed rate.

Hi,

VIE-NRT 400 Eur ACCEPTED Departure May8th

Upgrade was requested yesterday after having checked how many seats were available in Business and Economy. Economy was pretty full and business has 9 seats available.

I decided to bid for 400 euros as this flight is nearly 12 hours compared to the ones to the USA/CANADA which are below 10hours. For this reason after having seen what amounts are people are bidding for the USA Flights I decided to bid a little bit extra.

Finally this is a night flight which departs from Vienna at 1pm and lands in Tokyo at 07 am. This means that I will be able to take advantage of a full day in Tokyo after having rested in the plane.

I paid in Economy 315 euro (for this segment): 630 euro return.

Business class was sold 1400 euro per segment: 2800 euro return.

What do you think about the amount I have bid? Is fair?

Hope that this information helps to someone.

Cheers,

Oscar

OS red|upgrade vs. smart upgrade

Hi

It seems like OS is offering two upgrades routes.

Is the red|upgrade cheaper/dearer?

Is there any point in offering a lower bid (when compared to red|upgrade) on smart upgrade?

Cheers

Hi ,
redupgrade is offered during check-in ... for the smart upgrade you bid .
The bid for smart upgrade starts at 80EUR for European flights and 200 for longhaul flights.
In my opinion the Smart upgrade is much more cheaper and dearer than red upgrade. It also gets you to P class , while with the red upgrade you stay in the original booking class.

From my experience- the red upgrade in Europe is offered from 119e (and more on some routes).. on longhaul flights, for example , my vie-pek flight was offered for 699eur ..
So if you want to upgrade , I would suggest always to start with the smart bid - much bigger chances for cheap(er) upgrade..(OS did accept my smart bid pek-vie for 250 ! )

Thanks Mate.

Are these upgrades (red or smart) issued on a per-sector basis or for an entire leg?

For example, if I'm flying ATH-VIE-PEK would I need to upgrade two sectors individually?

cheers
