LaPlanche @VFT reports that the trial on D-AIPP is over, the system was no longer in service this week when he flew the aircraft.

Lufthansa selects BoardConnect for narrow-body aircraft

September 10, 2013

After trials earlier this year triggered enthusiastic response from passengers, Lufthansa has selected BoardConnect for the introduction of wireless IFE on its narrow-body fleet. Lufthansa will be the first mainline carrier in Europe where passengers can access a rich choice of entertainment and information on intra-European flights using their own smartphone, tablet PC or laptop on selected routes. In summer 2014 20 Lufthansa A321 aircraft will be equipped with BoardConnect.

Interesting to see they'll only be retrofitting the A321s and 20 of them at that!! Seems like a bit of product inconsistency but then again it's better than nothing at all.

Very curious to see the solution in action. Right now recommendations are that not more then 20+ users be put per single AP. In this case, in airplane, there can be up to 200 heavy users (multimedia is very bandwidth hungry) and they want to cover that with 5 APs.
Will wait to see it in action, before commenting, but skeptical at the moment about quality

Its already in place with Greyhound, Condor and Virgin Australia, so the number of users : bandwidth required ratio should have been sorted out by now... one would assume.

hamallu, do you think they will retrofit or just install it in the incoming new A321 deliveries? Ah, wait the 35 new A321 neos are only coming in 2016, so they will put this in the A321 aircraft delivered post 2007.

I'm curious to see how it will work on fully loaded plane with lots of users hanging on the system

Retrofits. The next A321 deliveries are scheduled in 2015 and then the A321NEOs should start coming in in 2017.

Survey on flynet and 'skydevice': It seems they are trying to figure out if the boardconnect product should be called 'skydevice'

As D-AISH is currently in SXF getting the Boardconnect retrofit I took a good look at the IFE on LX's A320 last weekend. As it was merrily playing some kind of content, about 30% of the pax were looking at their tablets, and another 10% reading old school printed matter.
