Groups 1 & 2 are called to board together IME. What’s the point in separating them if they board together?

Same here... last few flights ex-FRA and ex-MUC where: Passengers in need of assistance and family with small kids -> Business/HON/SEN/*G -> open for all.
Never saw any the new 5 boarding groups concept applied.
Btw, SK in CPH finally has 5 boarding groups AND enforces it.

At least in HAM, automatic gate readers are programmed to only allow the group called to clear. Groups 1 and 2 are boarded together by the gate agents (and they do enforce groups) while groups 3 to 5 board through the automatic gates.

I would say, it depends on the composition of individual groups. I've seen them board together and I've seen them board separate. I think most of the time, there is not enough people in one group or the other to separate them, but if there is, I've seen it done.
