Walking T7 to TBIT is about 1.5km, not bad with hand luggage only if you're reasonably fit and don't have mobility issues. (I presume the QF flight to JFK departs TBIT but a few QF flights use T4). Walking out the terminal, turn left so you're going opposite the traffic flow. You will pass T6, T5, then T4 and TBIT are next.
If you take the shuttle, a map of the terminal loop looks like a rectangle. T7 is at the lower right corner; the circulation is counterclockwise (sorry, anti-clockwise!) The bus stops at T1-T3 along the top edge of the rectangle. TBIT is the entire left side of the same rectangle, then T4 is next.
Lower level of the airport is arrivals, upper is departures. Get to the appropriate terminal and simply take an escalator or stairs to the proper level.
TBIT is very busy in the mornings when the Asia and QF flights arrive; departures tend to be noon-ish. The "European Invasion" is 1400-2000.

Would love to!
Unfortunately, it is connecting overnighter from Honolulu to overnighter to London. So we are stuffed. Alternative was 13 hours at Denver airport which, nice airport it is, was not inviting!
I've flown in, out & through LAX a fair bit but flying through next month for the first time using United. Seems easier as United centre around T7. However, having enjoyed the painful inter-terminal xfer process at LAX, can someone confirm that you can wander between T7 & T6 airside easily? Without having to negotiate security?
We have a 6 hour wait at T7 on way back and I want to use a lounge in T6...
Tx.
T5 - T8 are connected airside as reported in this post and confirmed by me:

Take the tunnel to T6.
Take the escalator/elevator up from the ground level to the gate level.
Walk through T6 towards the curbside, following the sign for Baggage Claim.
When you reach the TSA checkpoint, bear hard right, following the signs for UNITED BAGGAGE CLAIM and stay on the gate level. You'll now be in the walkway to T7/8.
That being said, I would combine the club visit with an In-N-Out run:

International transit at LAX
Hi,
I have a series of International transits coming up at LAX and having read the airport site on airline terminals it seems that staying airside and not having to clear US customs each time might not be so easy.
Here are my transits:
1. KE from Seoul to AS for Vancouver (TBIT to T3??)
2. AF from Paris to AS for Vancouver (T2 to T3??)
3. Number one backwards...! (T3 to TBIT)
Questions :
a) Is it possible to stay airside for these connections or will I have to go through US customs (in which case as a nonUS citizen do I have to fill out all those ESTA forms for each flight?)?
b) The shortest connection time I have is 3 hours (number 1). Is that enough? The other two give me about 4 hours each time.

You will have to go through customs. Even if you were connecting in the same terminal, all connecting passengers must enter the USA. Not as easy as the EU...

2 hours is enough, so you will be fine.

Thank you so much for the info. That is all very reassuring. Now to those ESTA forms...

You'll be just fine. Am pretty sure you have the terminals correct. The three buildings (T2, T3 and TBIT) are next door to each other. With T3 between the other two you really only have to travel to the neighboring building, an easy couple minute walk outside, your choice of lower (baggage) level or upper (ticketing) level.
Example 1: Exit TBIT, turn left and the next building is T3
Example 2: Exit T2, turn right and the next building is T3
and of course,
Example 3: Exit T3, turn right and, you guessed it... there's TBIT.
As Flyphilrun mentioned you will have to clear customs which, at least at LAX, forces you to exit outside of security and TBIT is isolated from all other terminals (as are T2 and T3 except for some shuttle bus connections).
If I may ask, when will you be traveling?

Again thanks for the info. The first leg is in July (15th) I think
The other two are in August (8th and 10th)

Transfer Update Question : T5 (DL) to T4 (AA-Eagle)
Last post on subject from Sep '08, wondering if anything new...does T5 > T4 require going thru security again if using the "unadvertised" shuttle bus vs. walking? Will 75 min be enough time to make connection @ 9:15P?
Alaska Air to NW at LAX in 1hr connection - possible?
I haven't flown much thru LAX, so hopefully someone may shed some light on this.
YVR-LAX (Alaska Air on NW cs) arrive 12:24pm
connect
LAX-NRT (NW) depart 1:20pm
Will i need to reclear security?
Can I make it for NW flt? Got a kid in tow, so I won't be able to walk in my usual breakneck pace.
I have no status with NW...if Alaska flight is delayed and I miss my connection, what are the chances of them putting me up on the next available flt on SQ11?

When are you flying? Note that NW will be moving Terminals in a few weeks at LAX which would make a 1 hour connection very difficult.
Before or after the move, you still will have to reclear security to get to either Terminal 2, where NW currently operates out of, or Terminal 5, where NW will be moving to on 6/30/2009 (which is on the other side of the airport). So either way, it's difficult.
As for AS putting you up on SQ11. Are you booked on a single ticket that includes both the NW and AS ticket? If you're booked on two separate tickets, the chances of AS putting you on SQ is slim to none.
:mod hat on:
And.... since this is a connection thread re: LAX airport, let's move to the Los Angeles forum for better handling.
So there isn't a way to go from Terminal 3 to 2 airside, to avoid clearing security? With less than 1 hr, i'm not very hopeful to make it ontime, esp with int'l flt closing gate 15 mins before departure.
