On June 1, LAN will commence operations using the Sabre system.
This from someone in the family that works for LANPASS.

This family member along with many other coworkers commenced training this past Monday.
I will post any corrections as we go along but it sounds like a complete changeover.
If you know anything about Chilean IT and customer service, be prepared for increased blood pressure starting around that time as they get the kinks worked out.
Oye, contacts are very guarded here but this person is not currently in a position to make decisions or influence events and doesn't speak fluent English.
I don't think LAN gives a rats arse what we are talking about on English speaking FlyerTalk.

Thanks VP --- I understand about the family member completely --- just thought it was worth a shot.
As far as the IT changeover -- I am also grateful for the head-sup as I will be sure to make hard copies of all my e-tickets for the rest of 2012 NOW --- and I advise everyone else to do the same. ^

Wow, connection to an insider, nice. VP you might become all of our BFF!
But right, a rocky road ahead... I will be following Plash's sage advice.
Wondering if it has any connection to the TAM merger?

So what does this change mean for folks booking with LAN in relation to BA and AA miles after the changeover? Will it be harder to look for award availability online and book (currently a breeze with BA) (kind of)

Actually, no. It is very rigorous just to start out. Interviews, study the manual, tests, more tests, hokey psychological tests, trial period, etc. And that is just to start with the contractor for LANPASS. After that call center experience, then one can actually work directly for LANPASS and receive all the benefits. This is Chile, so frontline workers have no power to make decisions and to do so would jeopardize your employment. That is the reason for seeming incompetence and bad customer service.

Yes --- I believe that most of our complaints begin with this flaw in the corporate culture.

I don't really have a sense for what the change over means to a customer. Is it as extreme as the UA to SHARES cutover? Will itineraries all get new PRNs? Will all the seats get jumbled?
