Low Roller: Room Comps at Wynn, Venetian, Mirage?

I'm looking for current comparisons between Wynn, Venetian, and Mirage in terms of room comps.

A little background... I'm a craps low roller. I generally average anywhere from $60-$150. So far, I've been able to get FRB at TI. Room at Bellagio. I've stayed at Venetian, Plazzo, and Mirage before, but didn't know to ask for comps so I don't know what I'll get there.

With my lowroller ways, I don't like to risk not having free rooms so I'm weary about paying $$$ room rates at Wynn and Venetian when I can stay for cheap at other places. From speaking to Casino marketing, Wynn has the highest stated $/avg while I think Venetian and Mirage are the same. My experience has been that you can get rooms for a lesser $/avg than stated.

Another factor to consider I guess are the pit bosses. My experience has been that Mirage pit bosses are really nice about rating you at close to the highest bet you make at the tables, whereas Venetian seems to nickel and dime you in terms of your rating.

Anyhow, I've been a weekend stay at the Mirage and a weekday stay at Venetian (couldn't get a good Venetian weekend rate). I would like to stay at the Wynn but the rooms are going for $200+ every night. Without room comps, it's just too pricy for me to stay there. Can anyone of you tell me what to expect in terms of room comps at these places?

I assume you're a member of the rewards program for all of these properties.

I've seen many posts at various sites from people that say they are pretty low rollers, and they're getting super cheap/comp offers for Venetian/Palazzo.

The V/P offers seem to be mailed, while for the MGM properties they'll either be emailed or you'll have an offer waiting in your online account. Dunno about Wynn. Can't hurt to log into your account to see what's posted.

There are some discount codes here that let you get a room @ Wynn for $110/night (or Encore for $150). Not free, but it beats their normal rates.

I think I have current comp offers at every single casino I've ever played at for more than 15 minutes (and some, not even that) -- a partial list is the Venetian, Wynn, Hard Rock, Monte Carlo, Caesars, Rio, Harrahs, Paris, Imperial Palace, Palms and a few others I can't recall.

I guess what I'm saying is that comps aren't that hard to get these days.

agreed. comps are much much easier to get now.

a TI/Mirage may also look at your overall MGM play vs just the previous play.

You can always call ahead to see if you can get a room from a host.

If you are getting RFB at TI and RO at Bellagio you should have little difficulty getting the same at the Four Monoliths. Your action is by no means trivial. But if you really want to ramp up your craps comps -- and you didn't say what bets you make -- make a few place bets in addition to your free odds, which many houses don't count at all.

I usually place $25 on the pass line. When I'm uncertain about the table usually place 2-3 $10 come bets and take odds. I usually end up placing at least $30 each on 6 and 8 (sometimes other numbers as well) and press up my bets.

So my average can be pretty low when it sevens out quickly and can easily get up there into the $100-200 range when I actually get my numbers to hit a couple of times.

Last time I stayed at TI, my luck was so bad that I think they rated me as having played only 20 something hours at about $80 average over the course of 4 nights. But because I had changed thousands of dollars they gave me FRB. I didn't really eat that expensive though. I think they comped me about $400 worth of food?

Anyhow, despite having played a lot at MGM properties lately, when I called up Casino Marketing at Bellagio, they gave me nothing. Not even a discount. Mirage gave me only the promotion rates they sent me and everyone else. I didn't call TI since I've been unlucky there, but last time they comped me two nights up front.

Anyhow, I am planning a 5 night trip in March. I would love to stay at the Wynn this time, but it's going to be tough if I lose money again and have to pay their regular rates. Venetian is going to be less. While Mirage will certainly be the cheapest (although I would strongly consider getting a suite at the Mirage if I can easily get it comped). Sorry for the long winded answer. I do go to Vegas often and it's worth it for me to spend the time and money to build up loyalty (if it exists). Venetian/Palazzo does seem to send out promotions often, while I heard Wynn sends out very little regardless of how many times you stay there.

Keep in mind that TI has changed ownership, so in the coming months it will probably not have access to play information from MGM-Mirage properties. If they're smart, their main focus in this transition time will be to keep their past players active and happy, and convince players that the "new TI" is a good place to be.

I stayed in a 1BR Tower Suite at the Mirage last year, and even though it hadn't been renovated yet it was still a great room. If you can get that comped, go for it! ^

Finally, I am such a low-roller that my comp level is free room at the Flamingo so I'm not sure....but wouldn't speaking to a Casino Host be better than talking to marketing?

The offers people are seeing these days completely confirm what has long been one of the accepted truisms of casino finance.

They make a ton more money on slots than any other kind of games in the casino.

When I'm in town, most of my time is spent in the poker room, so I'm exactly not the kind of guy they want, because they just don't make very much on poker.

On the other hand, I can't count the number of stories that all go something like this...

"I hadn't been to the (insert name of high end strip property) in years. I signed up for their club card and sat down at a video poker and/or slot machine for 30 minutes while waiting for my wife to (insert activity here). Now all of a sudden, my email inbox is groaning under the weight of all these offers for 3 free nights!"

So next time you're in town, spend a few minutes playing video poker. Have a cocktail, and wait for the offers to flow!

So can anyone answer my initial question? Which hotel is better at giving comps? And how far apart are they?

It is POM dependent. Recently MGM properties have tightened up to the point where I don't even bother to show my players card (for example MGM Grand had never failed to comp me for 15 years running and now wants me to pay).

My personal experience with Venetian (of which I avoid Venetian and always stay @ Palazzo).

4 day comps (including weekends) with upgrades to Concierge level (and some other goodies -- limited free play, blue man tickets, some minor F&B) are very easy to come by. Almost unlimited in a sense (and also including entry into minor BJ and slot tourneys.).

If you are interested in a great standard room (for COMP), probably one of the best Concierge lounges (on 23 @ Palazzo), and a super responsive Concierge staff (if you get to know them, all requests handled via email with PDF itineraries and changes on demand) this is the place to go.

I low roll (which to me is basically a $100 to $150'ish table average), and I'm happy with the above scenario.

When they comp you four nights, it's considered an "upfront" approximately $600 comp for casino purposes. At Venetian/Palazzo (and this is Venetian policy I'm specifically referring to) --- you need to work off the $600 before you get any extra comps (for F&B, Spa, etc. etc.).

I've played very light of recent, but my play in December was basically (for a 4 day stay) $101 average table bet for 9 hours (blend of dice and pai gow poker) and 3 hours of slots (video poker) for an average of $4.16 per spin (Venetian loves to track time and coin-in for some reason, most properties are just concerned with coin-in). [the model for VP/slots is a bit better --- but, expect to do decent $20K to $30K coin-in per day, not as familiar with VP/slots for RFB and other benefits, so I can't really speak to that]

What did that get me in addition to the room ---
absolutely nothing! except more rooms offers, and tournament entrys.

So, YMMV a bit, but basically unless you are moving in the $250+++ category of average bet (and at least 4 hours a day) --- don't expect more than your room comp.

edit to add: I'm locked out of baccarat @ Venetian/Palazzo. I only play games where I can face the cards (and preferably deal the cards) --- of which, there is hardly ever even a $200/$300 minimum bet table. (I've yet to see a $100 game, though, I have seen $100 big baccarat games mid-week @ Wynn) The games I like are all $500 and $1000 minimum bet. (Venetian/Palazzo) So, that basically explains why I spend most of my time in Atlantic City --- as the only playable big baccarat game for me in Vegas (consistently) is @ the RIO High Limit Salon ($100 big baccarat game).

MGM Grand in the Mansion and the Mirage high limit room has baccarat where you can touch the cards (not deal) for $100 minimum.

If you were talking slots, then we could easily say that the Harrah's properties give the most comps to slot players.

In addition to just talking about a comp room, you should consider trying to get a casino rate with your play.

You don't mention whether or not you are staying weekday vs. weekend nights which makes a difference in the room rates. For example you could get the Wynn for a promo rate in Feb for around 125USD a night on a weeknight.

I would say that since you have already had a comp stay at the Mirage and the Venetian, they like most casinos are going to hope that you up your play. It might be worth it to put some play anyways at the Wynn to at least get some future marketing offers.
