Tropicana Declares $25 Bounty For Each Bedbug

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/apr/04/bed-alert/

The owners of the embattled Tropicana hotel have placed a bounty on bedbugs, offering housekeepers $25 a pop for each one brought in alive.

“Don’t forget to check for bedbugs!” one flier exclaims in English and Spanish. “Check every room — every day.” The posting features enlarged images of the minuscule bloodsucking menaces.

Used to leaving a small cash tip for the hotel maid? Try leaving her a bedbug or two next time...

Cheaper than replacing their infested bedding?

Cheaper than having a guest find a "bedbug" and going apoplectic, forcing the hotel to give back hundreds of dollars in room charges.

The Tropicana always struck me as kinda nasty.....the casino has a peculiar stink to it.

P.S If Memphis beats UCLA and N.C. beats Kansas; and N.C. beats Memphis in the championship game..........it's $1000 to me.

That's alot of bedbugs!

What happened to the developer plans to implode this dump?

Are they still giving away trinkets to passers by walking across the bridge from MGM, hoping to tempt them into this place?

I am so glad I was given advice here on FT three years ago - to avoid Tropicana.

The rooms weren't bad 4 years ago, but my understanding is that it's fading quickly. The Vegas correspondent for the Los Angeles Times reported on a recent stay there: http://vegasblog.latimes.com/vegas/2...ht-at-the.html

There are a couple of Hotel/Casinos that deserve to be imploded, and the Trop is sadly high on that list - it used to be a great place, and their pool is still one of the better designed pools on the entire Strip.

I, too, stayed there many years ago and started to smell that odd odor of decay and defeat. Plus, one sign that doesn't bode well is when the mattress on the bed is so old, you find yourself rolling into the middle of the bed no matter what. On that trip, it was nearly impossible to climb out of that bed, due to the mattress sinking in the middle like the Titanic exhibit that used to be where Bodies is now. And even then, there was a musty odor, like a room that hadn't had fresh air in 30 years.

I think the best way to get rid of those bedbugs would be a few well-placed sticks of dynamite, and a roaring crowd watching as the place is officially put out of its misery with a grand implosion.

Now they're going to get housekeepers bringing in bedbugs from outside (infesting the property in the process) to collect the bounty.

That would be a concern, especially given the perception of management at this property.

Notwithstanding price rises, the neighbouring MGM property has a Players Club rate, lots of upgrade potential and lots of entertainment options inside. It's worth spending a little to get a room at a good place instead of spending a little at a dump, with nothing good to offer.

I'd still recommend mid-strip places like Bellagio or The Venetian for the infrequent visitor.
If you prefer an old dump there are lots better options, even mid-strip (if still there) than this place!

Very interesting article, linked above. I'd forgotten about the union dispute and this brings it back.

I wish I could say Happy 5-0h, Tropicana, but it would appear to be a sad place for everyone.

I'm going to send a link to this to my sister-in-law who just tried to get me to save some money by staying at the Trop. Blech!
