Help me get a better rate!

Going to Vegas with my sister, want her to be in a good location. Jan 11-14. Vdara is 272. I just dont beleive thats how expensive it is nowadays. Any recommendations? Want to stay at Cosmopolitan, Vdara, Aria or any first rate places. I will be honest, not a big fan of Vegas, but I know FT community would help. Other hotels are welcome too, Wynn, Encore, etc

I know this is not a "help me get a rate" board, but I just need your help, Vegas is not my typical destination always, and I can help you with other places, just not Vegas. Thank you

Try Encore or Wynn. They run specials all the time. Very nice!

CES is January 10-13, so you're hitting Vegas during one of the busiest conventions of the year - 140,000 people. The rates are gonna be high for this week, and expect the cab lines to be long, and the restaurants full.

If you want to economize a bit, the Paris is a bit cheaper and in the same central position. A bit further north, the Mirage is also a bit cheaper and a good location. Both are good hotels.

If by 'good location' you mean center strip, then no Wynn/Enore. After that it's up to personal taste & budget. I would select Cosmopolitan because of the great rooms, balcony, and fountain view. (but I am biased becaused I just stayed there for 5 nights and had a great experience.)
City Center hotels will be more expensive than their counterparts like Planet Hollywood & Paris.
Again, it's up to personnal style & budget. To me the wynn/encore, bellagio & mandalay Bay did have a similar style, like luxury european interiors. The city center hotels seem to have a more modern style, with a mixture of dark and flashy colors. The rooms are also full of technology if you like that.

Will you be using a car? If yes then Cosmo has a big plus, if you don't like to walk far ;-) (see my review in the cosmo thread)

During CES, $272 is a good rate but unless you are going to CES, I'd STRONGLY suggest another time. During the day, the casinos will be empty but doing anything at night will be tough due to the crowds. Breakfast will also have long lines unless you eat late.

I see Monte Carlo at $194 for your dates - center Strip, a notch below the top tier but still quite nice.

I'd agree with this completely.

If you aren't already a fan of Vegas, this will make you hate it more

i'll be going in VEGAS from the 6-13.

was able to get Venetian 6-7 @ $114/night, and a few rooms 8-13 @ 45/night. It's CES week and i'd advise you to change your dates unless you are going for that. Last year, Imperial Palace was $400/night if you booked the week before. But then again Last year CES was booked with AVE. Still....CES>AVE

CES=======>AVE

When the Excalibur is $115/night, it kinda tells you its a seller's market. I always use smartervegas.com to find the publicly available promo codes. Rates are still high for these dates but it might help save a few bucks.

Change your dates if possible. You're on top of one of the biggest conventions around.
