Where can I live in Vegas w/o a car for 6 weeks?
Hey LV people-
I have to spend 6 weeks in the USA this summer and am considering LV. Is it possible and convenient to live there without a car? I don't really want to rely on taxi's to get around either.......I prefer walking.......to the supermarket, cafe, bars, shopping.
Do you have any suggestions where I could stay for less than $1000 a month for a furnished apartment in a no car necessary loaction?

IT GETS HOT IN THE SUMMER IN VEGAS!
I mean "you don't want to be walking anywhere, let alone everywhere hot" in the summer.
The other issue is that there are some "not so nice" areas of vegas, so be careful there too. Not sure if under $1000 is possible in a decent area - others can help there...

I lived in Las Vegas for four months and I do not have many positive memories of my experience (and I had a car). Personally, I'd recommend living somewhere else and maybe visiting Las Vegas during your time in the US. Good luck!

Las Vegas has an extensive bus system (CAT is the name), many run 24 hours a day. buses.inbox.com has lots of info as well as http://www.rtcsnv.com/transit/route/ the official site.
The buses are airconditioned and a monthly pass makes them affordable.

Hmmmm...........it gets hot here too in Tokyo but we just bear it. Maybe I'll look into some other cities as well. I just thought LV would be interesting to stay for a while.
Thanks for the Candlewood Suites suggestion.

Not compared to LV it doesn't.

You might get a couple days over 100 in Tokyo. You will get nearly every day over 100 in LV in the summer.

You have no concept of what the desert heat is like. You're basically on the ocean which moderates your climate substantially. We are about 300mi from the ocean and there's a mountain range in between. Also, those mountains mean little in the way of precipitation to cool the place down. We average only 4" of rain a year.

The heat while walking to the market, restaurants, and other places is not as much fun. I've spent the day in the car running round Vegas all day for business and to honest it was tiring.
This is all not to say that you should ditch the idea, but it's worth understanding. If you're budget was a bit higher, you stay could get much more tolerable.
You also haven't given much background information other than "I have to spend weeks in the US". Personally, I'd look into spreading your time around, but maybe your budget and plans won't allow that.

If you are that convinced that you should go, you may want to look to see if there are any summer subleases available from a student near the UNLV campus.

Vegas isnt *that* bad in the summer! Althought the OP doesn't want to rent a car for the whole time frame, there's a good bus system in Vegas & one can rent a car for very cheap for a few days & use Vegas as a base to go to a variety of places including:
I wouldn't want to be car-less there, but cars are pretty cheap in Vegas & there's a lot in the surrounding area if you use it as a base - all within a day or so drive:
-Cedar Breaks
-Bryce
-Zion
-Grand Canyon
-Hoover Dam
-SoCal (SAN, LAX, Joshua Tree, etc)
-Death Valley
-several ghost towns
-Flagstaff, AZ
-Page, AZ (antelope canyon)
-Mt. Charleston
There's a ton of stuff & it's actually not that bad in the summer - a dry heat does make a difference.
