PAX in the aisles during pushback

Just flew LIM-MIA on LAN Peru. At pushback there were at least two PAX in J standing up putting bags away and I had not heard any announcement re seatbelts. Mine was undone. The US carriers seem very strict about all PAX being seated and belted up prior to pushback. Are these rules discretionary?

Is this your first visit to Latin America? Rules and laws are thought of as vague concepts sort of the same way they look at the concept of "time". Mañana does not mean tomorrow it just means not right now.

Welcome to the wonderful world of LAN!

As postular noted some things are relative in SA. My experience with LAN in LIM is that they aren't always concerned about things that would send a non SA flight crew off the deep end. That being said I've seen a couple of people do the same thing in J just before we started onto the runway and they almost had their hand cut off by one FA slamming the bin door on their hand and the other shoving them back into their seat.

Also there's a class issue as well, that type of PAX action gets a very quick announcement in the back of the plane!

Other difference is that the LAN FD is not on a power trip. Quite the opposite normally.
