LAN rollover miles

According to the Acumular kms. LANPASS page at
http://www.lan.com/cgi-bin/retros/paso1.cgi

Am I mistaken or does the above mean that we could "forget" to add our LANPASS numbers to our bookings and claim those kms for the following year's requalification if necessary?

Yup, actually thinking the same thing too ... In preparation I recently asked specifically the gate agent at LIM domestic if I could change my ff number at the gate (thinking I need it pre-gate). Said i might want to change to my AA account. But thinking of just having it removed, then claim in new year. Anyone see any glitches?

The glitch I see is that it is LAN and they can change policies in a heartbeat (but you already know that!)

I would think the biggest glitch would be not getting the benefits of your Elite Level (preferred access, lounge access, upgrades, etc.).

Yes, but the theory here is that since you can only drop one level, why not defer some flights to a following year to more easily regain a level. Did that makes sense?

The fine print:

Am I crazy?

Oki doki. Given they have recently added a km requirement to getting Comodoro status, in addition to the flights, I am seriously considering this option. That is, remove my FF number after check in and before flying, for the rest of the year and submitting on January 1, 2013. I have enquired at the gate, casually suggesting I am considering maybe using my AA FF number and seems doable, they say they can.

I am thinking since LAN sticks so rigidly to their Terms and Conditions, it should work. Ojalá.

Though I do shudder at the grief if they balk.

Am I crazy????

Go for it bingo, I often hold off flying at Christmas because I have already qualified where I am planning on qualifying. That or I have in the back of my mind "hmmmm New Year, falls in different years"

I will do the same this year, book a little Christmas and New Year jaunt and retrospectively claim the miles in 2013.

Whether or not you are crazy is a different question

I can´t imagine LAN letting you get away with it for more than one trip. But who knows?

Update: Well, took my FF number off many flights according to plan. Some were during the changeover to Sabre, so results are a bit biased.

I generally had them remove my number at the gate, the results were mixed. I got anything from: cannot do it, cannot do it right now but leave it with me and I'll change after the flight leaves, do not know how but I'll try... to yes, of course, here you go. Results were equally mixed, some segments showed up in my account even after they removed the number. Surprisingly, even when I had it removed at check-in counter, one still showed up. But generally when they knew what they were doing, that is, some time after the Sabre implementation, removing at the gate was mostly effective.

Now we'll see what happens when I submit in January to get them as 2013 status credits, crazy me, stay tuned.

Got my "please confirm your address" email from LANPASS today. Meaning I think they take a snapshot of everyone's accounts on December 31 (or soon thereafter) and use this to determine your elite status. Hence anything after this snapshot necessarily goes to 2013 reckoning. At least, I hope...

Well, it worked!!! I applied in January and a bunch of flights from last year got credited to this year for km accumulation and elite status recognition. Not straightforward, the actual flights get posted into last year but the km get credited to this year, sort of messy. Didn't do the same for the segments but I need not argue about that, always have lots of segments. So I got a 20k km kick-start to making Comodoro again this year (actually just after end of March jeje).

Me too, I was highly sceptical it would work... but you know how rigidly LAN follows the rules, that was the rule, giving me hope enough to try. Certainly something for folks to keep in mind, could be quite useful.
