SFO-ICN in J, Korean vs UA
Hi,
I'm planning a trip to Korea in the fall and considering my options out of SFO.
How does Korean Air compare to United in J? The website shows a 777-300ER (291) as the plane, with lay flats in J. Is that pretty much guaranteed, or could they switch it out for something older (as it seems is fairly common with Asiana)?

KE has much more planes w/ flat beds than OZ so even in the event of plane swap, you pretty much end up in same type of seats.
KE is almost always better than UA up in the front section, unless you're buying tickets, then cost may influence things.

Look at DL through SEA. Genuine flat beds with 100% direct aisle access. It might be cheaper too.

I don't rate KE J particularly highly, but even so you would have to be crazy to take UA J over KE J (assuming Prestige Sleeper, which is the seat on 77W).
Equipment swaps are rare on the longhaul routes apart from unforeseen disruption.

(on an aside, I have bought an OZ TPAC fare that was a Y fare, but booked into Z at no additional upcharge and was fully flexible/refundable )

Yes, but they sub out the plane on 211/212 with the old recliner style about 20% of the time.

The UA SFO-ICN is a nice flight in business class. It is on a 744 with lie flat seats in business class.
Although I have not taken the KE SFO-ICN flight, I have been on a KE 744 in business class where the seats are not completely lie flat, but rather angled flat seats.
All UA long-haul international business class seats are lie flat, including the 744 they use on the SFO-ICN route.

The site says 777-300ER(291), which has "prestige sleeper seats", I take that to mean:
https://www.koreanair.com/global/en/...e-sleeper.html
which at least says 180 lay flat. Is that what you had?
