Cool, that was a rumour over at HoustonSpotters site also.

When will it be officially announced?

Good news. Although it would have made a heck of a lot more sense if OZ offered it...

+1

although i thought it was random that they started a DFW-ICN route.

also i think OZ has a pretty small fleet compared to KE

I think they have been in Dallas for almost 20 years but then AA jumped into the route daily KE pulled back; so with the Dallas reduction why not try IAH? ^
It will be interesting to see if it pulls any from SQ along with the added 2nd UA flight IAH-NRT and China going daily.

SQ carries a fair amount of folks to SIN via DME from IAH.

IAH has really boomed to East Asia in the last couple of years.

Was always curious why DFW had service but not IAH. More Koreans in DFW?

Yes but not statistically significant difference.

I would speculate (and probably true), while the Korean population is quite large, the presence of some large Korean companies in the area is the reason why. Many have distribution centers here, which require cargo service from KE.

KE is by far the largest Asian carrier in the US. They really, really, have to revamp their brand image and schedule though. (Try to connect from Asia Pacific to Europe...). An 8am HKG-ICN would go a long way.

I would think with this new service they would be running promotional fares. I haven't seen anything yet. So far UAL and Air China seems to be the cheapest way to asia from IAH. I have a bunch of Delta miles and hope I can find ample space on this new route. getting out of IAH on DL has been tough. I welcome this new service.

Timings of KE flight target on deep south Asia such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippine, Indonesia, Vietnam, and also Hong Kong, and more likely have cheaper ticket to those places. Other destinations usually require overnight stay at ICN and less likely have any promotion.

Unfortunately, KE's promotional fares are in travel agencies only. Also prices are different between agencies. Not convenient for us.

Korean Air has the US-Rest of Asia connection schedule down pat. It's quite impressive. See also SE Asia-US schedules with red eye/morning departures.
