KE plans LIM via LAX
According to various sources in Korea, KE is seriously planning to launch LIM via LAX later this year. This source says KE plans to start a charter in December for 1/w, and launch regular flights from March, 3/w. KE applied for 3/w operational right recently to Korean government. This article also mentions that KE worries lack of business demand. Well, last time I seriously doubt its plan to NBO but it did it anyway. So why not this time.

There has been rumor for a long time including the one from a.net last year: http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo....main/5259265/
It will be awesome if KE can sync its NRT-LAX schedule for convenient transfer both from ICN and NRT, but it is also possible to sync with ICN-LAX-GRU to maximize connection opportunity at ICN. We'll see.

It's good to hear that KE is about to add second South American cities. I wonder how KE will operate this flight. Maybe KE015 operates this route or I guess there will be a new flight number for this flight via LAX.

They should do this via YVR instead.
Flights here are very full and not clearing US customs is a + for the pax.

They're both within 11 miles of the great circle distance from ICN to LIM. YVR would split the travel almost exactly in half, and you are very right about avoiding US CBP.

Is there any market for YVR-LIM though? YVR doesn't currently have any nonstop service to anywhere south of Mexico, and I doubt a dead end connection to LIM with no major Skyteam carrier based with any ops there would change anyone's mind. I am guessing most people connect through the US or YYZ currently to get to South America out of YVR. Also, LAX-LIM is already served by LA and LP. One reason KE's ICN-LAX-GRU works is that nobody else serves LAX-GRU nonstop. Of course, KE flies a lot of routes that don't seem to make any sense on the surface as noted previously in this thread.

For CI at least they are happy to send pax through the US and YVR for their service to TPE from the East side of Canada.
