Recently I was flying KLM (internationally) in Europe, got the e-mail inviting me to check in on line from my computer, signed on to my FB account on the KLM website and tried to do so. In the process I tried to change my assigned seat to a vacant exit row seat. The machine said I'd have to pay for that seat.
Figured it was just a glitch of some sort that would go away when I went to print the boarding passes, but it wouldn't let me get to that screen and kept demanding credit card information to pay for the seat change.
I'm Platinum Elite with Flying Blue, and was properly logged into the website. Further, my FB number and status were properly reflected in my reservation.
I thought there might be something wrong with my computer, so I exited and went to check in using a different computer. Same story.
So, I didn't complete the check in. At the airport, I explained to the lady at check-in that I wanted to change my seat to the exit row. She did so. No mention of payment.
This is the second time this has happened to me. Anyone else have the same experience? If this was just a temporary bug in the KLM website that's one thing, but if it is a common glitch, what do others do in such case?
