Just got back from a trip to MCO which was my first flight out of the new T5. On my return I noticed one minor design flaw. I only had a carry-on bag, however I had to go down one level into the baggage claim, turn right walk past the baggage carosuels and then up to the same level I was on before and then up another level to take the skyway. Why couldn't there have been a passageway on the far left hand side of the security checkpoint (they'll never use them all anyway, TSA is not going to staff all those lanes) marked to Airtrain/Parking garage, after you come back into the ticketing area, along with a sign for Airtrain/Parking Garage, you could have a sign to Baggage claim as well using a down esclator in the same place you put the up one.
Probably, now that there is no room for an down esclator it would have to require use of the elevators but still doable.
Not a tremendous deal but something that if B6 wants to attract business travelers it should look into changing.
The problem is when your leaving the gate area you can't just go to the ticketing area, the only place you can go is the baggage claim. So yes if your on the non-secure side of the Check-in/Gate Level, you can go to the Airtrain by using just one escalator but not from the secure side.
I believe there is a passageway to ticketing level from the gates by that expensive steak place. I am connecting in JFK tomorrow for my SJU trip and will check it out and let you all know. Saw flying4aliving today in TPA on my turn!

Okay, I'm on my sit here in JFK. There is direct access to the ticketing hall/airtrain from the gates. There is a corridor to the immediate right of the 5ivesteak restaurant. Cheers.

There is a sign, but I think that the issue is that it is so close to the gates that have not been opened yet, that area lookes closed with the lack of activity.
Your right Jersey, it's not marked. There is some signage about no reentry but if you look around T5, inside security, there are no signs directing customers to the airtrain. This was pointed out on opening day and was suppose to be corrected. I'll see if I can rattle a few doors and see what's up.
Good to see you too JAX, ya caught me!
