It is amazing how many people feel so entitled. It is raining and you forgot your umbrella and didn't wear appropriate clothes for the weather and it is the airlines' fault? Wow... If it was too hot upon arrival, should the gate agent get out the palm leaves to fan the passengers on the way to the terminal? If you arrive in NYC in the winter, should somebody escort you to your vehicle so you don't get wet/cold? Do winter jackets need to be distributed because in California it was warm and one didn't think it would be cold anywhere else?

I've been on commuter flights on AC in the middle of the winter in Toronto which parked at a remote gate and we had to walk through the snow and wind to the terminal. It was winter in Toronto--duh--it may be cold so dress for it or suffer the consequences. If it is going to rain in Southern California, it is likely to happen from November to March. It only rains a few days a year but anybody living in California knows it is a possibility.

Look on the internet and see what the weather will be like and plan accordingly.

We had (still have) a cruddy little airport that was served by Eastern and Piedmont (now Delta and USAir) with 3 "gates" that are doors leading out of a common waiting room onto the tarmac where you walked to the plane. They ALWAYS had umbrellas available. I don't remember if they were provided by the airport or the airlines, but they were always there, and they got quite a bit of use.

Airports (or airlines operating at them) that do not have sheltered arrivals areas should have umbrellas. The cost is minimal and the value is enormous.
In GNV they now have covered walkways (steel frame covered in tarp) leading outside to minimize exposure to the elements. They put them in about a month before I moved away. Which is good, because it rains there more in two months than it does all year in SoCal. (Almost).

I've never been to LGB, so I presume the GNV "solution" is not workable there?

So it seems that they have the facilities but didn't use them. That is truly unfortunate.
