Yeah, but I've been on the IAD-SJC A319 before when it's been weight restricted. I don't know if anyone was bumped that day, but UA has a lot more flexibility in that area due to alternate routings, or if it's really bad, they have the ability so substitute a longer-range aircraft.

more reason why it still may be better to fly the legacy carriers.

Not that this is gospel, but Air Canada's website lists the 319 and 320 as the same range, and the 321 over 400 miles less.

Looks like this isn't just a JetBlue issue.

Unusual head winds prolong flights

David Neelman is ending up in the media for a lot of wrong reasons lately.

This is an issue. Its not just a JetBlue issue, but JetBlue is probably hit hardest than anyone else. Boeing NG 737's would have been a better fit for what JetBlue wants to do. They probably got a better (aka subsidized) deal from Airbus, but now they're paying the price.

Stunning how bad it's been for some flights the last 2 weeks.

On flightaware.com, if you put in Jetblue 471, the daily BOS-SJC, and you see the longer version of the daily flight log (up to 90 days, need to register), you see that of the last 14 days, 11 times they had to stop (SLC, DEN, MSP) somewhere.

I may get lucky; tonight, I take the return B6 470 SJC-BOS, and it looks like the incoming flight will make it nonstop.

This is not a "10-to-20-year event." Maybe the intensity of the headwinds is, but I saw refueling stops on JetBlue last winter as well.

According to http://www.mspupdate.com/diversionscharters.htm - MSP saw 24 JetBlue Flights in 6 days.

MSP also got visits from a Continental 737-800 flying EWR-SFO, and a Song 757 flying JFK-SFO making technical stops for refueling due to the jet stream.

Most of the stops were for less than 45 minutes.

I was on US 81 on 2/20 from PHL-LAX, and A320. We stopped in MSP for fuel. We were on the gate for about 27 minutes, and total time on the ground was about 45 minutes.

As far as carriers that fly 737NGs transcon (CO, AS, WN), I have not heard of any of them having to make fuel stops due to the headwinds.

They're continuing to occur - last night's BOS-LGB flights (and likely others earlier in the week) had to stop in SLC and LAS for fuel.

I think I'll hold off on trying Jetblue for my transcon flights.

I was about to post a question asking if this happens frequently, but I already have my answer. My father-in-law is on today's flight 355, and will be having a tech stop in LAS this afternoon.

Unfortunately, I was the one who booked this flight in early February. I have a feeling he'll be going back to AA after this experience...

I guess I'm lucky since I have yet to get stuck on one of these flights but if I do, I'll be like "Gas Stop? Ok, whatever.... pass over that snack pack and a pack of them blue chips, gotta finish watching this TV show"
