what kind of documentation is currently necessary to visit Cuba?

There are 12 qualifying categories under which US citizens self-declare (it is a drop-down on the JetBlue booking page) for travel. Tourism is not one of them.
Other than that you need a valid passport and either a visa from Cuba or a tourist card which JetBlue will sell at the airport.
