Multi-carrier tickets and IRROPs

Quick question. I've booked my in-laws one way RDU-JFK-SVO-PVG (used AA miles for the return PVG-RDU using JAL F and AA F -- quite a disparity!). RDU-JFK is on B6 and JFK-SVO-PVG is on SU; they've got about 2.5 hours in both JFK and SVO. All flights are on the same ticket, purchased through an OTA. This is in December, when IRROPs are very possible; the ticket is on 555 (Aeroflot) stock. What happens if RDU-JFK gets delayed -- is B6 then responsible for getting them all the way to PVG (and how)? Or does SU, as the issuing carrier, bear some of the responsibility for rebooking here?
