jetblue and bereavement fares
 

I may need to go to a funeral on short notice. Does anyone know if Jetblue offers bereavement fares ?

Not sure, but your best bet would be to call. Their hold times never are too long, and the agent should be able to help you out.

If you don't want to offer bereavement fares, be straightforward and just say you don't offer them. No need to insult anyone's intelligence in the process.

Most LCCs have the same policy, since you can buy some kind of "discounted" fare online (less than full Y for example) right up until departure.

Not saying I like it, but it's how it is.

And on all most, if not all other carriers, you can buy a last-minute fare, less than full Y, right up until departure.

They're all competing for the same business. The LCC's are no longer the low-fare airlines.

Bereavement fares were started back when legacy carriers would charge you $1000+ to travel on a domestic flight at the last minute. They would give a % off the full Y fare. With jetblue the fares all all one way so you can don't need to lock yourself into a round trip and the fares are capped so you can already get a fare much lower than the former fares offered by the legacies. Thus is makes no sense for them to offer such things are bereavement fares.

Thanx for your sympathy . The flights were cheap enough on Jetblue so that my wife is able to get down to Florida without paying a lot .
