Saturday nights in late December in Tokyo are very tough with little notice. I found this place that has vacancy for both the 21st and 22nd, the Hotel Mercury for 7800 yen in Asakusabashi 1 min walk from the Asakusabashi station on the Rakuten site. You can catch the 5:06 AM Asakusa Line with thru service on Keikyu Line that gets you in Haneda at 5:40 AM. That way you will not have to spend your nights out in Kamata. Or go for the SHIBA YAYOI KAIKAN that you mentioned before.

Here's some 2004 data that says that Haneda is the fourth busiest airport in the world and the busiest in Asia with not 20 million passengers -- but 62 million (just behind LHR and ahead of LAX)!

http://chat.extremetourist.com/index.php?showtopic=311

He doesn't say what the source of his data is, however.

I think they were talking about Fukuoka when the figure 20 million was mentioned. But yes, Haneda is unbelievably busy, and it is the more remarkable because it doesn't "feel" busy, and it is far from the CF that similar-sized (or much smaller) airports are like (e.g. JFK, EWR, LHR, or LAX). One of my favorite airports. Fukuoka is probably about the size of LGA.

If you prefer to be closer to the airport by paying a little more, a couple of single rooms still seem to be available at the Hotel JAL City Haneda for 10,100yen or $103.20 a night on the 21st and 22nd through

Thanks for all the responses. I really really appreciate all the help. In fact when I did a search on Google for hotels, this thread on FlyerTalk came up as the top hit

I decided to go with the Mercury hotel due to the location. If I procrastinate anymore, I might not get a room I secured the last available rooms, picked the Budget room for the 21st at Y7180 and a single room for the 22nd at Y7800. The Budget room required two guests, I gave one male and one female. Too bad the female never showed up

Looked at the train schedule on http://www.hyperdia.com/ (from the sticky on this forum). It says one has to transfer from the Toei Asakusa Line to the Keikyu Ltd.Exp. at SENGAKUJI. Will that require walking across from one line to the other or involve crossing more than one platform?

It has been a long time since I did a trip to Tokyo, looking forward to some good sushi.

We were discussing about Fukuoka. Hopefully it does not have the same decor as LGA

Not exactly but it is very bland. Thank god it is very convenient^!

If you need to eat something, there are more overpriced/non-delicious options in the domestic terminals than the international. Please head upstairs to the third floor.....There is a thread somewhere here of one brave soul who got on the subway and headed into town for a bowl of Ramen between switching planes (I think it was International>Domestic though).

Fukuoka was the worlds 70th busiest airport in 2006.......
70 Fukuoka FUK 18,205,998 ... -2.6

No, that 5:06 AM Asakusa subway is thru service and will run onto the Keikyu line at Sengakuji so you do not change and stay on the same train. The blue arrow on Hyperia will show that. The Asakusa line has both thru service on both the Keikyu line (there are also trains that go direct to Yokohama) and the Keisei line. When you are coming from Nairita Airport, you can take the Keisei Limited Express to Aoto and walk across the platform and catch the (usually waiting) Keisei local train which will then run thru on the Asakusa subway line. It will be 1060 yen from Narita Airport to Asakusabashi. Hyperia will explain this better than I can.

A brief update: I was lucky enough to snare an upgrade on the LAX-NRT trip. Made the trip quite comfortable. Landed in NRT and as suggested took the Keisei train and transfered to a local to Asakusabashi. The hotel was easy to find and was just what I wanted for the layover (the room size was equivalent to the size of a restroom in a spa). For my purpose it suited me very well. ^

Took the early morning train to Haneda and arrived on time for checking in. Checkin at ANA premier desk was a breeze. The HND-FUK flight had mechanical delays in HND for an hour cutting my layover in FUK from 2 to 1 hr. Fortunately I had ANA staff waiting for me in FUK to escort me all the way to the international gate for my SQ flight. It is good to fly Business class on ANA/SQ

Thanks to all for your advice and suggestions. Tons of help. ^^^

Thatsa-me! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=663763

And yes, it was int'l to dom -- it won't work quite as well the other way around, because you'd probably want to check in before heading off, but the subway station is next to the dom terminal. But if you've got a few hours to spare and are willing to splurge a bit extra on a taxi, why not?

And don't forget to say hi to the lovely ladies of ASFUK

Question Hotel near Haneda airport - reasonable price?

Was wondering if I could get some help.

We arrive to Tokyo Narita at night and then the next day we have an early morning flight from Tokyo Haneda.

Am looking for a reasonably priced hotel which is in easy access from Narita and close to Haneda.

I know there is a hotel at Haneda airport, but its pretty pricey, was wondering if there are any other options.

Thanks!
