I would also favour Airbnb, for budget and convenience: you will find places that are cheaper than hotels, usually with a kitchen, with is handy (for having breakfast at home, for example). I would look for a whole property for 6 people.
I can send you a promo link if you have not registered yet (send me a private message if you need a promo code).
Take the time to read the property descriptions and guest reviews to make a suitable choice.

Only thing to mention with a large 4-5 bedroom property that unless you're in the luxury/expat end of the market (and it seems that you're not) that the apartments will be Japanese style and therefore likely have only one bathroom. 5 people trying to leave together each morning with one bathroom is not ideal.

Definitely not looking for 'luxury' accommodations. They don't make sense to me personally. Will literally only be sleeping there, and some nights not for very long, so spending hundreds a night on a bed doesn't work for me.
AirBNB sounds like best option.

But at least Japanese homes almost always have separate rooms for toilet and bath/shower room. And there's often a bathroom sink outside of the bath/shower room. So, one person can shave/ brush teeth while another is showering, while the toilet is still free for anyone who needs it. (And the kitchen sink can be strictly for food prep and dish washing only).
