I like the melon bread, but I am sure all these are full of horrible additives, so I eat in moderation.

I tend to avoid the bread at 7/11 and most of the stuff at Lawson, but I have taken a liking to the stuff at Family Mart. All 3 of them can come up with a drinkable cup of coffee now too (IMO Family Mart comes out ahead here too). 7/11 wins on wifi though.

But that is what makes them taste so good.

Not many places make great Japanese baked products in the traditional way, so, with the exception of the Mt Thabor Hokkaido Milk bread, I wasn't that fussed about them as we have the TeToTe Factory (now in Ealing) that makes some of the very best example of Japanese baked goods - truly superb and leagues ahead in quality from what you generally get in Japan (and solid proof that it isn't the additives that make bread taste good)

But I haven't made a trip to Nishiogikubo yet to try Japanese breads from Lisdor Mitsu - which specialises in additive free hand made organic baked goods

Definitely a future pilgrimage for me, I'd also feel confident that you could get Japanese breads without animal fats here.

Levain near Yoyogi and perhaps the Jensen Danish bakery nearby for Graham Bread and their cookies (only available in the cooler months). Have to disagree with mjm about Viron as their viennoiserie is a whole lot better than the other "French" chains. D'un Rarete has a great buttery brioche loaf, as does their sister shop 365 Jours in Yoyogi Hachiman. Great for making french toast (without the lines).

I had a morning set served at 5PM on an aircraft recently.......bizarre !
